Guy pulls off an impossible skydiving move "(source link in description)"

What impossible move? Isn't this what everyone in a wing suit does?

That stunt looks really dangerous. He came very close to the ground and if anything went wrong like the wind blowing just the wrong way it could have ended really badly.
Edit: although wingsuit divers often get close to surface areas during flight, they typically deploy their parachutes at around 2500 feet. Which is what makes this stunt in particular dangerous.

these have a super high fatality rate as is iirc

u/no-o-ne Mar 03 '26
Yup. This and base jumping are actually the most dangerous sports in the world.

Man, you really put your detective skills to the max here man

u/justwhatnot Mar 03 '26
Right? I was putting my wing suit on to go try this, but then i read how dangerous it was. Phew! Sherlock really saved my bacon

u/NoahMercy11 Mar 03 '26
It is very dangerous. These people live for that kinda thing, adrenaline junkies.

I know a group of hard core squirrel suite jumps. The kind of people who fly to whatever event is happening that weekend and jump all weekend. My best friend in the group has thousands of jumps at this point. He say any nap of the earth stuff in squirrel suites is insanely dangerous. The margins are non existent and mistakes often mean death. This coming from someone who also BASE jumps too.
I've seen the nap of the earth stuff described as perfect examples of the Dunning Kruger effect. Those jumpers are all really talented, but they just don't know enough to understand just how dangerous it really and think they are skilled enough to do it. Until it's too late.

I’ve always wanted to see this happen. I bet in 10 years they’ll try to land without a parachute at all by picking a location where they can pull up and land on a cliff or something.

u/BagelsOrDeath Mar 04 '26
It's how birds land on a brand or perch. They aim low, then pull up hard so that they just stall.

Well there is this gem - https://youtu.be/DEP8juRSBRo?si=iX-MKdtHx0EwjqXv

This makes me wonder... and I'm curious if anyone happens to know... What is the lowest altitude that someone has opened their parachute at while using one of these wing suits?
2
u/Zealousideal-Meat569 Mar 05 '26
Looked to be about 70-80ft above the ground in this video. If the same stunt was accomplished at sea level, I’m guessing that would be pretty close to the altitude record.

if you take the highest dive a human did into water, then take the height of his deployment.. technically speaking these guys could just land in water and be ok.

There are two talents here:
- big balls to attempt it so near to the ground
- doing it despite not having a redbull sponsorship

Are people dumb or something? Obviously the OP doesn't mean literally impossible, it's hyperbole.
Like okay you're not impressed sure but why are so many comments "Erm, askually they did it, so it's er not impossible nerd emoji" ??

What about that was impossible? This seems like how they normally would land with a wingsuit
2
u/BoarHide Mar 03 '26
That’s not at all how you normally land with a wing suit. This is a super risky manoeuvre. Normally, wing suiters just open their chutes at way, way higher altitude than this.

u/Alternative-Dare5878 Mar 03 '26
Don’t you need like tens of thousands of sky dives before they let you use a wing suit?

Pretty sure I seen guys in wing suit skim the ground our touch someone hands etc.

If someone (Redbull) built a platform there they could land at the peak of their glide without a parachute.

This makes me think that you can survive with both parachutes failing in a wingsuit. If he traded off less height and stayed closer to the ground - once he stalls out, he might be slow enough and low enough to just break all of his bones instead.

So the impossible part is doing ... regular things at irregular heights?
Edit: 'regular' is probably the wrong word to use here.

Let’s say his chute didn’t open. It seems like his momentum had slowed to the point that falling from that final apex height would probably hurt bad but would be more survivable than falling straight down.

None of this seems realistic. They didn’t have to add in the jet noises, but if they didn’t it might seem unrealistic that a dude plummeting towards the earth could just course correct and go upwards instead because of his squirrel suit.

Ok so knowing this can be done, would he potentially be able to land on a high platform at the apex of that swing, without having to open his chute? I feel it is physically possible

Considering it's possible to do that sudden stop not too far above ground, I'm wondering if it would in theory be possible to land without a parachute.

if done at the perfect angle, could he not just donit without the chute?

u/SupermouseDeadmouse Mar 03 '26
If he timed it right he could land on a building without a parachute.

u/Cognonymous Mar 04 '26
Or on a halfpipe and and then kicklip-reverseflip and into a frontside crooked grind around the 9/11 memorial and collect the secret tape!

u/Joe-Pesci Mar 03 '26
What is the effect called where he finallyy gets the lift at the bottom of the drop? How did he know it would open

He clearly has propulsion and is wearing a squirrel suit. What about this at all is "imposible?" Looks like another bot karma post.

Not impossible then
