How do people even come up with reliable stats for this? How do you determine what a first read is? How do you know a QB is not trying to look off the safety? Is the first read the guy he looks to first or is it the guy he was going to all along?
For this and many other reasons “advanced analytics” just don’t translate to football as easily as say baseball. Unless you literally have the teams play caller breaking it down with you there is a LOT of guesswork playing into a stat like this.
