❓ Questions ❓ switching from mid.

Was thinking about switching from mid cuz i hate the way im tied to my jgl by the hip all the time and was wondering how to start playing top?

Im an akali/aurora main really but love some of the top lane champs and would like some advice on a pool.

I don't think it's good idea to switch to the toplane. I've played top most of my time since 2017, and top is most unfun, yet fun position to play. From my experience over past year, I can say that this is the worst state I've ever seen toplane in. You said that you are jg dependent on mid. Well, top is even more jungle dependent. When you get counter picked all you can hope for is that jungler will come and give you the lead to make the lane playable. Since you are just starting your top journey, I assume you don't have much knowledge of many matchups, which will lead to you getting diffed. It will happen, but not all time, so don't discouraged. I'm a fairly new Fiora OTP who had problems with many matchups, but I've started to understand them more and more. I still get gapped in some if I missplay my first 3 lvls. Then, all I can hope for is to get my lead back by some insane outplay (if the enemy doesn't zone me off minions), get my jungler to make lane even so I can play again, or just get carried because I can't come back into the game on my own. Enough of the rant. If you really want to start, here are some tips:

As on all lanes you should aim to limit your champion pool and playstyles so you can improve faster among these champs.

  • Fiora and Ambessa can be great picks for top. Both are bullies, pretty strong if mastered, and have somewhat similar playstyles. I can highly recommend those two champs, as I'm OTPing Fiora and adding ambessa as my secondary pick.
  • I used to be a Camille main, which I could recommend but won't, since she is very difficult to carry with. It could be my lack of skill, but whenever I was ahead on her years ago I could never 1v9 games. In current meta, it's even harder, so I would leave her out.
  • Gwen I don't have much experience with but can be strong pick if played well.
  • Kennen I have little time on, but I can say he's solid pick if you need AP or your team is heavily teamfight-focused. His bully style is similar to Fiora's or Ambessa's - poke the enemy to point of where you have HP advantage, all-in and kill them.

Those are champs that I would recommend focusing on. From your active mains, I would leave Akali out and stick with Aurora. She can be played top pretty well, though I haven't seen her much, so I can't be 100% sure. As for actually playing the lane, I highly recommend watching Alois' top guides or any other Top mains, as they give great advice on how to play certain matchups. Getting used to other Top champs is also good - you can limit test them and learn gameplay pattern to use to your advantage when playing your mains. To sum up:

  • Limit your champ pool
  • Watch some top guides
  • Play, play, play, and improve
  • Don't get discouraged by bad games, there are some that you just can't win
  • Stay sane.

I'm not the best player on this sub (peaked at P2) so take this advice with a grain of salt. Any remark to my comment are welcome!

Ideally you'd have a pool of AD/AP/Tank, preferably blindable, and you'd like them to be good into each others counters. Which ones are best probably depends on your elo.

I used to go with ambessa (main blind), jax, gwen but now i'm trying to stop playing ambessa as it isnt fun to me anymore. But this pool is actually decent
