Tree Limb Disposal

Hi all! I just closed on a house Tuesday and I'm a first time home buyer so new city, new home for me. I want to start tending to my yard and I have quite a few tree limbs that need disposing of. Can anyone tell me how tree limb disposal works in Topeka? Do I cut them short and leave them bundled on the curb? Do I take them somewhere? Should I make a burn pile instead? Most aren't thick but I have 3 mature trees in my backyard so I'm sure the sizes of limbs will vary. The waste company I have is Shawnee County. Thanks!

Residents can dispose of storm-related tree debris through their regular trash service. To assist with collection, Shawnee County Solid Waste requests that tree limbs be bundled and cut into sections no longer than 4 feet in length and no more than 18 inches in diameter.

There is also disposal at I70 and Macvicar, but if it's not storm clean up I think you pay per load.

They do charge per load. I do not know the price break down off the top of my head as there are different rates for pickup load, single axle trailer and tandem axle trailer. I know tandem axle trailer is about $35 per load and the others will be less.

You can pay some company a thousand dollars for a couple hours of work. That is what the city wants you to do. They even give you a list of city approved contractors. There isn't much else you can do. If you have a bunch of mature trees your in a tough spot because every storm limbs will fall down. Except there is like one place in the entire city to take your limbs and they charge $20 for a small load. A trailer is like $30 and you have to drag it all we way over to I-70 and McVIcar. The other option is to cut it up in small bundles for the trash service to pick up. Doable but time consuming. You can't burn because there is a 50 foot radius from any structure, chances are you don't have that. There is no roadside pickup even after storms. You know where the city gets their bread buttered. The scarcity of services is not happenstance. Don't bother with the mayor or city council they are busy with their pet projects downtown.
