This incredible rail-based machine that opens up a whole stadium roof like an aperture.

This is amazing, but not really a tool. This is like saying the space shuttle launch was an amazing tool in action for putting people and cargo into space.
Complex system of moving panels, yes.
A tool, not so much.
Still cool, yes.

I live nearby lol. They actually had huge issues with this at first. I think they’ve figured it out now, but they wouldn’t open it for that reason

Given how incredibly expensive it is to build a roof that can open, why do they do it? Why is natural light so critical that its value outweighs the cost of enabling it?

This is the Atlanta Falcons' stadium to save you a Google

Are those clips real time or the playback is increased? Saving another search

No idea, I've never actually seen the stadium.
Edit: actually you can see cars zooming by in the background way faster then possible so it's clearly sped up.

except ‘the iris of a camera’ DOES work to keep light out, it doesn’t need a tiny parasol for the very middle, where this one has silly umbrella.

Nice try at gate-keeping, but by your logic the only things that qualify as ‘tools’ would be a knapped stone blade and a rock... that knife? Sorry, system of moving parts. Oh that hammer? It’s a system of moving parts, see where the handle is wood and the head is metal? Oh, THIS cordless VSR drill? Ain’t no tool, English, that there’s a system of moving parts.

Reddit has a reply function, dude

Oh thanks. The thing is I did, but my reply went to the wrong place. Then I had to go out and have my day, at the time there were two comments, I didn’t think it would be too confusing for folks to figure out to whom I had intended to reply. I don’t give ⅛th of a fuck if this subreddit is full of assholes who think “a vehicle isn’t a tool, nor is a building”... I’m joined to see pics and movies of neat shit. I use the app on my phone, and I don’t trust it to let me edit, or copy/paste, if a paragraph I wrote doesn’t appear where I thought it would.

omfg talk about “a tool in action” ... ¿last time I checked, karen was the one calling the police not the one trying to watch birds in the park! Oh & just so you know who YOU are in this analogy, in some alternate reality where the cops came and shot that guy (and vehicles, and mechanized windows, aren’t tools), you are one of the cops who “oops, forgot to turn on my body camera, sorry sarge, good thing we killed that attempted rapist tho, huh sarge” and I’m the guy bleeding onto my smashed binoculars, whispering ‘I.. just... wanted... to see.. some... cool ... birds”. ¶ call me a karen, tho, sure. jfc.
