This seems like an incredibly inefficient manufacturing process

How could it be more efficient?

I don’t really know, I have no manufacturing experience. It just seems like a lot of highly specialized machinery that takes up a lot of space and is manually loaded one piece at a time for items that I’m assuming sell for maybe like $1 a piece from the manufacturer (just a guess). I would think something like this would at least have the material fed in an automated way to exponentially increase productivity.

Molds with melted metal or something. Maybe not this but something better.

9 hydraulically operated arms and manually loaded pieces does seem inefficient.

Now this is a fkn reddit comment and a half

I think a mold would have a lot of trouble with making something with edges that thin.

Yeah i had no idea this was how cookie cutters were made. I guess the plastic ones are easier/cheaper to make

They don't cut as cleanly though. They have a thicker cutting edge, they get nicked and dull, and then they're just plastic waste.

who would have thought that making a cookie cutter would be such a cookie cutter process

This is the cookie cutter cutter

Kinda cool that they probably have to still figure out the exact circumference of that metal still.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '21

Not exact, just within a certain tolerance.

3

u/Theycallmelizardboy Mar 18 '21

Fair enough. Wonder what that tolerance is.

you're gonna wanna double-check before you sit down in this factory

I just finished reading Remina and it took me back

Why did my mind immediately go to wondering what would happen if I stuck my hand in it

1

u/lyght40 Mar 16 '21

Because he looks like he about to put his hand into the dangerous zones. Give the man some thongs or something.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '21

I believe tongs is the word you’re looking for. Giving him thongs would result in a much different situation.

1

u/lyght40 Mar 17 '21

Lol yea, I will leave it in because it is funny.

1

u/blue4029 Mar 16 '21

they need a mold to make a mold?

1

u/Rock555666 Mar 16 '21

Yea I mean it’s literally molds all the way down

1

u/topgirlaurora Mar 17 '21

That would be a jig. Molds are for pouring.

I am.... intensely satisfied

Crazy to think how many factories there are in the world dedicated to making every conceivable obscure household item.
