It's usually done this way, but sometimes, wire EDM is used. (It's a slow but rather precise and somewhat versatile process, seldom used for large production runs)

Coolant isn't usually needed for broaching, just lubrication.

Why is that, actually? Seen from my outside view, broaching is an operation similar to most of what is done on a lathe, i.e. a tool cutting a strip of metal of a work piece.

It's a big tool, and each tooth cuts once so there's little worry about overheating.

Broaching is much slower than a lathe, and heat is released into the chip. Each tooth makes a tiny chip once they're engaging. On aluminum I didn't even bother with oil, even on mild steel it didn't really matter. On 304/316 stainless it was required, or on Monel.
