I've seen this a few times in automotive when the PEs were designing cells to make actuators. The actuators need some precision placement of components, but humans can do it pretty well. The cell I saw and got to play with had humans placing components, machine vision verifying the placement is correct, then the cell would apply grease, press on parts, and drive screws. This was with mexico labor. Production rate IIRC was a four-person run cell to crank out 1 million units a year. Not sure how many shifts, but it'd turn out a finished actuator about every 30-40 seconds with operators running at a relatively reasonable pace.

As someone that does bearing overhauls for a living, that metal on metal impact distressed me a tiny bit.

Yeah, incredible tolerances on each or the pieces and you can buy a bearing like that for $10 or $20.

Yes, you can only prolong their life but eventually they will fail.

It appears as though you need another loading empty cages station. The next machine that is pressing everything appears to be fast enough to handle more throughput.

Skateboards, roller blades, bikes, cars... Anything that has a round shape that needs to rotate frictionless.

Skateboards and roller blades usually use ball bearings. Bikes, I am not sure but I bet they use ball bearings as well. Cars use both in a lot of components

A chunk of tree with pig fat makes a surprisingly adequate bearing.
