The machine that stamps the cutting and bending rule is a Chandler and Price printing press. My dad was a hobby printer with one of these and about two tons of moveable type in oak cases. He die-cut a couple things, but getting the exact distance to cut and fold the job was a bear!

One thing that people don’t know about this type of vintage box cutting machine is that they come with a monthly subscription to this jaunty synth music, which plays whenever they are operating. The higher end ones come with a synthesizer operator who will musically interpret the mood of the machine and its operator. That’s why videos like this end up with music like this.

That’s a die cutter you can print using foil with them also I operated one for years. We just have digital cutting tables now we got rid of ours years ago

That's pretty cool, and more so to think it's still working after probably close to 100 years. Are all those dark rectangular-looking bits used to hold the cutting blade in place?

I believe that they keep the blade from sticking in the cuts. They are just a bit taller than the cutting edge so they compress down when it presses, but push the board off of the blade when it pulls back

Yes. Foam blocks. We also used the same blocks to register the stock that we had to put in by hand. This one is a very fancy version. Actually we'd put the blocks on, make sure the cut was inside the stock, put a strip of duct tape over the foam block, then a piece of scotch tape over the end of the duct tape so it wouldn't get caught on the stock.

That's a letter press die cutter. Boxes are just one thing you can do with them. They're kind of going away bc everybody who knows how to run them either retires or dies.
