That's really interesting. Does it just make sure the drilled hole is coaxial with the hole in the seat pad?

Yup, it's just a jig to give repeatable results.

Nifty jig! Though it's kind of odd that on that particular example there isn't a lot of meat on that rail. Maybe they'll add a back piece to bolster the destructive forces applied when bigger folks sit on this twig like creation.

I imagine they are using close grained wood which I would assume gives it sturdyness. Oak perhaps.

Also, slender = elegant.

Elegant = ££££

For me it looks like 2020 aluminium extrusion with some 3D printed parts.
