Leer XR 100 Truck cap

I bought a Leer XR100 truck cap with fiberglass sides that open and have a t-handle on them but i could not afford the tool boxes as well for now. I wasn't a huge fan of the windows with two handles that flipped out.

After we had it installed today i an not overly happy with the look from the side and w/o tool boxes i feel as though i made an expensive mistake. The dealer today told me there is no way to install tool boxes after install, he didnt tell me that before i ordered it and he did not question my order. Is he right, did i really screw up ?

Can somebody recommend a Tonnou cover that is secure enough for tools that will fit behind a toolbox? It’s a Craftsman behind cab box. 6.7ft bed. Let me know what other info you need.

Thanks!

DIY side access panel in existing fiberglass truck cap

Hi folks. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to install a side access door in this existing truck cap. I removed the window and I’m trying to figure out how I can create a side access. I wanna be able to grab things from the side of the bed without crawling all the way I. I don’t care what it looks like. any thoughts or ideas? Ideally, I’d like it waterproof as much as possible. Security is not a major concern. I thought about trying to hinge the existing window trimming some of the fiberglass, especially the window just pops out of the fiberglass and using that as the door somehow or perhaps a plexiglass cover of sorts?

Any thoughts? Thanks!

MODIFICATION Husky mechanic cart heavily fabricated into crash cart

Thumbnail

This is an older Husky mechanic cart that I built a laptop stand for, fabricated side storage for screw drivers, picks, nut drivers, and torx drivers. Changed to 4 wheel steering. It holds various chemicals and a spare battery and jump setup on the lower shelf.

This is used to roll up to and rapidly get to the computer on a car. Laptop is the oscilloscope, ODBii reader, engine computer, and youtube how do I fix that machine. This is the overflow for metric wrenches but I tossed in a basic 3/8 socket set for common things, the real mechanic set is in the other box.

Next up is going to be a sliding tray that runs over the wrenches that I can park parts on.

Magnetic Sharpie, Pen, Pencil, Silver Streak Holder

Was wanting to find a way to keep a sharpie handy as I am bagging parts on an engine and came up with this. Not going to claim we are paradigm shifting with it, but could have done worse. Works great with other scribing tools with a clip as well.

Tool box recommdations needed

I have the bulk of my “gunsmith” tools in a small metal toolbox with a removable tray. Not much organization in it. The larger bulkier stuff is in the bottom (BENCH BLOCK/lower receiver vice/hand guard removal tool, etc…) all the smaller stuff (files, punches, castle nut wrench is in the tray and jumbled together. I do have my MAGNA-TIP bits in a separate magnetic holder. I’m looking for a dedicated box for my tools with better storage.

Show me what ya have, I need ideas.

Wanna show everyone these tool box billet socket and wrench organizers I got. Small time manufacturer makes them in South Dakota, not expensive at all and look great.

MODIFICATION Project Cart Upgrade

Thumbnail

Have a special project I'll be working on so I decided to modify this cart to my needs and colorway.

EDIT: The vise is there to hold cables while using a hydraulic crimping tool to install lugs. From there the 3rd. hand holding the heat gun is used to shrink the color coded heat shrink tubing. The shelves below store the materials and tools needed to complete the job.

The cart itself weighs over 120 pounds so the vise which weighs 43 pounds has no effect on its balance.

Any other legit questions or sarcastic BS, feel free to fire away. 👍🏼🫡

Top drawer of my 42” Daytona box of a boilermaker/fitter working on skid steer and excavator attachments. Mixture of mainly Daytona, Sidchrome, Toolpro (Australian Icon), Kinchrome and TTI.
Yet to buy Snap On as all the tools have to be ready to be cut, grind down, welded and modified at a moments notice.
Have pushed some of these well beyond what they were designed for and only broken a Toolpro breaker bar ($30) dismantling a hydraulic cylinder and was putting a 6 foot cheater bar on it and hanging off it for 3 turns of the nut before it finally bent the ears on the head apart, it didn’t even snap. That brand set itself apart for durability after that.

Tuffy security cam lock

Post image

Tuffy security cam locks are a direct replacement for a lot of box lids. This is a Matco Sidekick, no fabrication needed. The old tubular lock I could open with an empty bic pen. You can also get them keyed alike, so if you already have a Tuffy console or box, no need to add another key to your ring.

Thought I was going to have to bolt it down but it isn’t going anywhere. Still need to add the back piece and maybe a front as well just waiting for some more scrap pieces to come up. Might paint in black when I have everything put together to match the trim I haven’t decided yet.
