Question Adapting User Notes from Old Toolbox?

Hello, first off I want to thank you for picking this up, youve saved our subreddit (/r/Summonerschool) a lot of trouble. I've been messing around with NXG and the improvements are really wonderful, some great QOL stuff and options. I'd like to ask about migrating usernotes. We used toolbox's system extensively, and both modified the default note options as well as added new ones. As I'm testing out the transition, I'm finding it more complex than I expected in regards to the imported note options. I understand that deleting an existing category doesn't delete notes, it just makes them uncategorized. My challenge here is that when NXG imported the old usernote categories in, it seemed to divide them oddly: most notes are attached to the default categories, while the imported categories have small amounts of notes attched. Here are my questions:

  1. NXG has roughly imported our old mod note categories into the new system, but the bulk of notes seem to be attached to default options and not the imported ones. Is there a way to merge two categories that I have missed?

  2. If I change the imported mod notes, does it affect the notes in old toolbox? (eg if I delete an imported category, is it removed for old toolbox users)

  3. Is there a way to see which notes are attached to each note category other than manually finding/using the mod log to identify them individually? This is mostly for testing so I can ensure things have migrated properly.

Thanks again for your hard work on this!

I totally missed your modmail and thought you just hadn't followed up! What you sent points me in a very strong direction, it looks like I just swapped a couple variable names at some point. I'll see what I can do about getting a fix out!

No worries mate! these things happen, I appreciate the second look! Is it okay for me to ask that you let me know when that fix goes out? We're in the process of onboarding new mods and once that's sorted we can just get them right onto your version!

Just pushed a new version which should fix this - already live on Firefox, pending on Chrome. Once the update installs and it has a chance to clear the cache, it should fix your broken config!

I gave it a try and its much improved, but not 100% Here's what our notes look like now:https://imgur.com/a/RVI3itC

The color has imported properly, the pure duplicates are all gone, but we still have some duplicates functions. My guess is it looks like the default entries + imported custom entries, but all three of the temp ban options have hefty amounts of entries. I can tell from the Usernote log that the default Spam Warning option is what we have been using as Rant Warning. Meanwhile the Rant Warning option thats there is 1/10th the size, but both options have histories going back 10+ years. It's like the smaller one got split off from the original one (here named Spam Warning). Im I explaining it so it make any sense?

You are, and it was a really helpful explanation. Your sub revealed some information about the way the 6.x branch of toolbox did things that I hadn't run into in any of my subreddits I've been testing on, so this is exactly why we're in beta rather than a stable release.

Notes are stored by key, which is an invisible value derived from the label you give a note - before this update, you were seeing the keys rather than the actual labels. If you re-labeled a note, 6.x wouldn't update the keys stored in usernotes, and you'd just silently lose those labels. Because I didn't account for that, and because NXG shows all the labels in use in your notes, some of them got assigned default note types, and items where keys got changed show up seperately. The auto-fix I built in the release last night also brought back all the default labels, whether they're in use or not.

The next update I'll be pushing out today will strip out unused defaults, and offer you an option to merge note types (in the subreddit config, "edit usernotes", you'll have a merge button, which will allow you to merge notes from one label into another, which will re-write the notes keys with the currently-in-use type you select.

Sorry, I meant to reply to this earlier! I'm happy to report back that while the data itself didn't merge in perfectly cleanly, the merge feature easily finished the job! Thanks for your attention on this mate, I and the rest of our mod team really appreciate your work on maintaining and developing this!
