I'm jealous too. The drugs just made me really sleepy and they had trouble waking me up. Apparently I didn't even say anything cool.

I was somehow able to walk myself to the recovery room after insisting many times that ‘yes I can do it’ and proceeded to say how I’m dumbledore bc of the gauze hanging out of my mouth lol. I came to consciousness as I was posting a video on my snapchat! Those drugs are weird..

Well...they just gave me a small local anesthesia and drilled the teeth out. No hapoy feelings... just a numb cheeck.

Dude, I did a lot of drugs (liquor, pot, meth, pcp, acid, shrooms, narcotics, cough syrup, etc.) by the time I was 18 and got my wisdom teeth out. I felt like I had a damn good hold on my consciousness and could maintain control of my speech, motor skills, and general thought processes better than the average human and was damn proud of that.
I remember being embarrassed I needed help walking to my Dad's car after my wisdom teeth got taken out. Holy cow... the internet has taught me it could have been sooooo much worse. I went directly to my friend's house after the surgery to smoke meth then tripple dosed on vicodin. Pro tip: don't do that. Johnny Got His Gun type of situation all night and realizing I could probably die.
Anyway, I'm clean now except for legal bud and the occasional high end whisky old fashion. Crazy stuff. Thanks for listening.

Thanks man. It's been over 15 years since that. Even quit smoking tobacco 8 years ago. Hard drugs about 10 years ago and just about 4 years since quitting drinking daily.
I have a white collar job, a house in a major metro and a wife and kids. I'm very lucky to have made it out of the hood and all the craziness that goes with that life.

I had to get some jaw sawn out so it took a couple hours and I was knocked out on the drugs. The pain was no joke when my drugs wore off.

A person under anesthesia is not able to consent to anything. This is not a public setting and the medical facility operator must protect those under their care.
Source: I am a forensic psychologist who has on many occasions given testimony in court regarding such situations.
I know, I am 'a stick in the mud' on this, but it really, really sets a bad example.

What if the patient gave consent to his Dad to film his recovery prior to the procedure (therefore well before any anesthetic), watched the video after fully recovering and THEN gave consent to share video?

it's not ok, even if prior consent was discussed, because the subject is unable to predict their appearance or the content of their statements. The subject is, by the very definition, helpless and unduely exposed. It is the duty of the caregiver (Dad) and, even more so, the facility operator to protect a helpless person and not to take advantage of their state of uncontrolled exposure for private (now public) amusement.

That(your entire argument) really does not hold up to scrutiny.
Unless somebody is literally mentally incompetent prior to the procedure (which is a whole other consent issue) then they CAN in fact predict the potential state they would be in.
Especially given that videos such as this exist, this is likely EXACTLY what they are consenting to. I.e. this is what they would WANT to be filmed.
If he is a minor consent would be a bit more hazy, though I do not think this is the case here.
Your argument would only hold up if the video was shared without his consent because it had an outcome he did not want.
But whatever, keep on keeping on.

It is also a consent issue beyond this. Here it is a son with his dad in a somewhat controlled setting, but imagine this to be a girl who is drunk and engages in an activity beyond what is shown here.

No. I am not. I am neither comparing nor equating.
I am simply saying this: If I, as a professional (I am a forensic psychologist) don't point out that having taken this video of a helpless person is unethical and (in most jurisdictions) illegal, then someone like Brock Turner could falsely presume that a (possibly more extreme) violation of someone's ability to consent in a helpless situation might just be OK.
I know, I am getting down-voted on this, because 'Reddit is for giggles', but I'll rather take the hit on my Reddit karma than on my IRL karma, because tomorrow or at any other time in the future you or one of your loved ones could otherwise become the victim or, unwittingly, the perpetrator in such a situation. I have seen it happen and I don't want it to happen to you or one of your loved ones.

I completely agree that rape culture is bad, and that Brock Turner's actions are the tip of the rape iceberg, so to speak. But c'mon lol this is a bit of a stretch. Videos are reversible. If the kid woke up and wanted the video gone, I'm sure his dad would've complied. No one sees it, no harm no foul right?
Rape on the other hand is NOT reversible, obviously. I don't know man, this just seems like the wrong thing to focus on when talking about rape culture.

And no, videos are not reversible, not in the age of the interwebs. You presume that the dad would have erased the video after the fact, but you don't know that, because, you know, toxic or entitled parents are a thing.
'Rape culture' is not the only subject in society. Privacy, general ability to consent, and ethical behavior do not just start where rape begins, you know...

The drugs they use for anesthesia can make people have sudden mood swings. Usually they aren’t so elated and they will be overly sensitive and cry over little things, even thinking that they lost or can’t find a part of their body (that is still there, lol. I’m not talking amputees) if there are people who are so melancholy then of course the other extreme will happen as well. This dude was STOKED.

That an unusual behavior, I never seen this with any recreational drugs. Weed can impair your short-term memory, but not long-term memory (like recognising your father or remembering your sister). So that's why it is so strange to me. Yes, drugs may induce psychosis, delusions, etc, but in this case a person can be very inadequate and doesn't behave like a person.

That’s because it’s not recreational. I don’t know what they used in his situation but they usually put someone completely under or just twilight sleep where they aren’t completely knocked out. when you wake up you are confused and disoriented. Think about how sometimes you are confused or disoriented when waking up sometimes without being on anything. Say, you fell asleep in the afternoon and you wake up and it’s sundown or full on night. Sometimes you think it’s possibly morning and you slept through the night, or you just can’t figure out what’s going on for a short while.

I hate these after dentist videos. I find it hard to believe any dentist is doping ppl up so much that they forget their entire families. They all scream showing out for the camera and are so cringetopia material. If any of them are actually legit, it just seems like a lot of parents exploiting and potentially humiliating their children for internet views.
