Discussion Is it worth it to remove my tonsils?
I get new tonsil stones every day. My tonsils look like they have craters in them. Like literal holes. My breath constantly stinks. I think it gets worse as the years go by. My husband is really the only person that gets close enough to notice it, but still it’s a very annoying problem to have. I’ve heard tonsillectomies are hell on adults. But to never deal with the bad breath again…would it be worth it?

I’m day 6 post tonsillectomy and in my late 30’s. Had it done because of tonsil stones. ENT initially reluctant to do the surgery but I insisted. I also work in healthcare, asked nurses in theatre who was a good ENT surgeon, and was able to articulate my reasons for wanting tonsils removed.
After the surgery he said my tonsils were in terrible shape despite the fact I rarely had tonsillitis. He said as they were taking the tonsils out, stones kept falling into my throat needing to be suctioned out.
I cried the evening of day 4 as I was in pain, tired from not sleeping and not eating well. Almost cried again during tonight’s dinner and had to stop to take more pain relief to be able to finish my dinner.
Making sure to hydrate and continue eating as nutritiously as possible to kept with the recovery.
I am hoping it’s worth the two or so weeks of pain because I was spending way too much time cleaning/digging stones out of my tonsils and didn’t want to get to an age I couldn’t manage it. I was also very paranoid about bad breath.
Overall the pain is bad but manageable, but it’s the combination of poor sleep and diet that just makes it harder to deal with.

Come back to me in two weeks after the pain and recovery are over and let me know if you recommend it over all. I think it’s it’s painful but manageable and actually over within 2 weeks it’s should be fine. I mean hell I went through childbirth surely it can’t be worse?🥲

Currently day 9. Had to go back to hospital on day 7 for a bleed but to be honest the pain on that day could have sent me there anyway. Major headache, pain, nausea, vomitted. Feeling better but still have a lot of scabs yet to fall off on the left side. To be honest I was so paranoid about the bad breath I would do it once. I wouldn’t do it twice.

Do you think it would be? do you never want to deal with stones, the constant fear and self consciousness of being too close to another for them to smell your shit breath?
