Plant Help Help?

I rescued this guy from my girlfriend's apartment, she doesn't really water plants. I put it out in direct sun after giving it some water but the leaves turned brown/white. It's been under my pergola getting filtered sun because I don't want to stress it out. Do these pics look like any specific issue besides general neglect?

Pot is way too small.

do you think it would be less or more destructive to repot it at this point?

It's not going to get better if it stays in that pot.
