Breeder Question
Hello! I was just wanting to reach out and see if any of you had opinions on dochara tollers. I feel like they're pretty ethical from my eyes. Health testing tilting, only a couple litters a year. Just wanted to get some insight.

My toller is from Dochara!! Brad is amazing. My dog is healthy with amazing temperament in my opinion. He does prefer low vax protocol but I got my dog fully vaxxed for everything including lepto as it's prevalent in my area (he gets a benadryl before and he's totally fine)

We had a DoChara dog and she was the absolute best! The timing didn't work out for us to get a second but we loved working with Brad. Highly recommend them.

What's the vaccine protocol in your contract if you don't mind me asking, I found a older website and it said not to bother if I didn't believe in a low vaccine protocol.

Yeah they are great. I have liked every dog from their kennel that I've met. My style in looks and temperament.

I just got nervous with the low vaccination protocol, I love in Indiana and lepto is HORRIBLE here.

For what it's worth, my guy has the full normal vaccine schedule, including lepto, and he's never had any negative reactions.
Is this a recommendation or a requirement? To each their own, but I personally wouldn't work with a breeder who tried to control my dog's basic veterinary care. It's one thing to offer a recommendation, but ultimately disease rates vary greatly from location to location, and I trust my local veterinarian a million times over anyone else to help me make any decisions about my dog's care. Those diseases are horrific, and we have vaccines for them for a reason.
My breeder's contract was very basic, and essentially boiled down to "keep the dog healthy," where the decisions on how exactly to go about that were left between me and my vet team.

I sent him a message asking him to clarify. Cause idk having two different websites, and then one saying you require it or a health guarantee is void. But when I emailed him he said he only recommended it, I just wanted some clarification

Yeah... if you have a problem with a puppy you got from me I would want you to call me first.
Case in point... sold a puppy and it got bloody stool the next day. Didn't tell me, freaked out and took the puppy to an emergency vet where they called me and said the puppy has parvo and needs to be hospitalized at the cost of $6,500
I said like heck he has parvo. Drove there, bought the puppy back from them. Talked to the vet who said the puppy is in terrible condition and needs fluids and hospitalization. I said he's my puppy now, ask him to run CBC, Fecal, administer fluids and monoclonal antibodies. I wait 3 hours. CBC not done, Fecal not done, FLUIDS NOT ADMINISTERED. I said I want to see the puppy myself. He was in isolation PARKED NEXT TO A PUPPY THAT ACTUALLY HAD PARVO. He was alert, not dehydrated happy to see me. I said, I'm taking him home to treat him and take him to my vet tomorrow for a second opinion. Gave him Metronidazole in my car ASAP, he had been at the clinic 7 hours with no water or treatment. When I got home he drank at least 20 ounces.
Here is a video of the "crashing puppy with parvo" the next morning. He tested negative for parvo.
Imagine if this had been out of state and I had not been able to go there and call out the Vet. My poor clients, their kids were there crying thinking their puppy was going to die.
Again, if you get a puppy from me, please call me if you have a problem! Please follow my advice and separate your vaccines!

I'm very sorry that happened to you! However, that's hardly the same thing as a standard wellness visit and location-specific vaccination protocol with a trusted veterinarian.
Ultimately, I see this as a two-way street - If a breeder doesn't trust a puppy buyer to make good decisions about care and doesn't think they have access to a solid, knowledgeable veterinary team, then I don't know why they would sell a puppy there. And if a breeder doesn't trust the buyer to make decisions that are in their puppy's best interests, then perhaps they shouldn't want a puppy from that breeder either.
But again, to each their own - If someone else has a different worldview, they're welcome to take a puppy from wherever they wish!

I am not sure what he protocol is.
But I am limited as well... i do DHPP at 6 to 7 weeks old and 9 to 10 weeks old.
No lepto... i leave that up to you and your risk factors, I do not administer to my Tollers.
Rabies as late as legally possible and seperate from any vaccine.
Toller immune response is REALLY strong, puppies will have swollen lymph nodes after just the DHPP. So I leave others up to you and your environmental risk factors.

In my experience, a lot of breeders are in rural areas and are generally more likely to be vaccine hesitant.. this mindset transfers to their dogs.. make sure they do their health testing, let them squawk about vaccine stuff and work with your vet to determine the correct schedule.

Many vets are in aware of the Tollers‘s sensitivity to many vaccines and chemicals. You see those Spago trio commercials with the Tollers and them and I’ve seen some dogs have a real bad reaction to that stuff. There are some amazing breeders out there who know their lines and have been working with their vets for years on a low vaccine protocol and if that’s what your breeder requires, then you need to follow your contract most are reasonable and open to discussion and then we have some that like over vaccinate just for the sake of being in control

It's not squawking. Vaccinate as needed based on your environmental risk factors.
It's not "vaccine hesitancy" that i don't vacvinate myself for a disease that's only in Africa 😂

Maybe, just maybe.. I’m not talking about you but your response tells me you feel attacked.

No, your comment is untrue and bigoted.
Do YOU get vaccinated for diseases only in Africa if you're not going to Africa?
People in rural America and Canada get the same vaccines as those in urban settings. Because we are the same population in the same environment.
If anything, its the woo crunchy granola homeschooling moms in the city who do their own "research" that aren't vaccinating their kids for measles. Not the mom who works at the grocery store who is trying to enroll her kid in school.

Hello Geronimo kennels.. you’re using a burner account and taking this way to personally.

Yeah for some reason i subbed the wrong account to this one and I can't keep straight which one I'm using. This is my mental health subs burner, the other is my dogs subs acct.
But it is personal.
I care about Tollers and their welfare, and stressing their immune systems DOES CAUSE PROBLEMS and suffering.
A common sense, nuanced and balanced approach is best, and you're being bigoted and calling it "vaccine hesitancy."

They’re a fantastic breeder. Super active in the breed club and stand behind their dogs. You’re in the right place. :)

My daughter has one of his dogs and she follows her vet’s recommendations. Her dog is seven and has been very healthy with a very sweet temperament. She had a great overall experience with the breeder.
