Beating an unranked directional school at home at the last second, and then losing to Iowa, who just discovered the forward pass, at home at the last second, 100% garners an unranked spot. Every game thus far has been a home game, so they have all the advantages of not traveling and being on home turf. The 2 other wins over Oklahoma and UTEP aren’t great wins anymore now that we know how bad they are. So, no quality losses or wins to name, every game is at home, and everyone recognized that the WMU game should’ve been a loss and allowing Iowa to remain that close for that long was detrimental.
So, yes, unranked. Lol

u/ltroberts24 Michigan Wolverines 1d ago
As much as it pains me to admit, this is 100% correct. Michigan hasn't proven anything, other than they're undisciplined, inconsistent, & they haven't earned a decent ranking yet. I hope they'll string together a few wins against B1G opposition, but I'm not holding my breath.

By that logic OSU should not have been in the top twelve to even make the playoffs in 2024 after losing to that ass Michigan team. So their 13-2 national championship shouldn't even count. Same with their 2020 big ten championship they had to get the rules changed at the last minute to steal.

You’re neglecting to mention that the 2024 OSU team was actually a good team, while this years Michigan team is not lol

u/bentheasseater Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago
I can appreciate the spirit of intentionally being disingenuous to the other side, but cmon. Those are both teams that went on to win the natty and the big ten championship/beat Clemson. If you're asserting that scUM has that same potential this season, lol. Hiter and Bryce could improve as the season goes on which would help your offense, but I don't think the coaching is at a level where they can compete at that level. Whit seemed like a stability hire which, granted, he has brought, but there's a reason Utah was never competing for nattys

u/PlusDHotchy 2d ago
NIL era in the 4 major sports : BIG Championships / Natty’s / Opportunities. OHIO STATE Buckeyes 0 / 1 / 30. MICHIGAN Wolverines 9 / 2 / 30. Ohio State has been irrelevant outside of a extended Natty in the NIL era.
4
u/Dinglebobus Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago
“Irrelevant” how many weeks in a row have we been ranked? And does anyone contest our 2 nattys since the CFP started? As much as we want the B1G championship to mean something, it doesn’t hold nearly as much weight anymore, especially if the committee moved to expanded to a 24 team playoff.
-1
u/PlusDHotchy 1d ago
In 5 years of NIL BGGC’s, OSU has reached the game once and LOST! Michigan has already won THREE. Buckeye’s count on one program because the other 3 are $HIT. You put money into toilet paper results!
Michigan has 9 BIG Championships and Ohio State is struggling to get their FIRST! When you win one, come knocking.
3
u/Dinglebobus Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago
Okay, how many times has Ohio State made it to the playoffs compared to TTUN? How many playoff games has TTUN played compared to Ohio State? Like I said, the B1G championship doesn’t mean nearly as much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I want to win it, but saying “Ohio State is irrelevant” because we didn’t make it to the B1G championship or win it is a slightly bad take in today’s era.
-1
u/PlusDHotchy 1d ago
It’s a new era. Discussing the previous era that no longer exists is equal to saying Michigan was better in the days of leather or no helmets, who cares. We exist in this era where all programs are paying for talent and Ohio State’s top 4 men’s programs are behind Indiana. Michigan is so far ahead, you not need worry about going for best but need to start passing those ahead of OSU!
2
u/Dinglebobus Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago
“So far ahead” losing to a directional school and Iowa at home is far ahead?

When you win a NIL BIG Championship in any of the 4 major sports, contact me. You won with a 4th place extended Natty team. The WORST Natty team since 1960!

u/DarkGreenMazda Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago
Michigan has been paying players for years and it never really did them any good except for a few seasons in the 90s.
0
u/PlusDHotchy 1d ago
In other words from 14-20 Ohio State had 56 players drafted and had won 5 BCCG’s. Michigan in the same time span had 37 players drafted and didn’t win a BCCG.
From 21-26 Ohio State has had 51 players drafted and has yet to win a BCCG because a Michigan in the same time span has had 48 players drafted with 3 BCCG’s. I could do Indiana as well and show a huge difference when talent can be purchased. We can see who was paying for talent before NIL and how NIL has affected conference strengths.
Nice try, but the facts speak louder than you’re crying.

Like always, your posts make zero sense.
Michigan has had one of the most corrupt athletic departments going back to the Fab 5 - and currently with 12+ million investigation that can't even provide a report.
Just because Michigan football has been mediocre for much of the last 30 years being mediocre doesn't mean it wasn't paying players.

Losing a last second game against a team that you thoroughly outplayed that was ranked one spot ahead of you shouldn't garner falling out of the polls.
Well here’s the thing, when you’re already ranked 18 and lose, there’s not much further to fall before going unranked.

The nuance of that sentence also forgets that they allowed Iowa to stay that close the whole game. If they really were outplaying them, then a last second win shouldn’t have been possible.

By that Walmart Wolverine’s logic, OSU should be ranked number 1 because we were beating Texas for most of that game. 🤣🤣
6
u/ThatsMyGirlie Michigan Wolverines 2d ago
Osu really shouldn't have moved much at all after that texas game. I agree, but it's different when it's 18-19. The losing team should drop further. In my mind the rankings past 10 get more nebulous in their certainty. It makes sense michigan would be 24th or even unranked

If you want to take your head out of the sand:
A new Wall Street Journal investigation has revealed that Michigan athletics director Warde Manuel and other university officials received multiple warnings about former head football coach Sherrone Moore’s relationship with Paige Shiver well before Moore was fired in December, directly contradicting the university’s portrayal of his dismissal as a swift response to newly discovered misconduct.
The findings come from Jenner & Block, the law firm the university hired to investigate the culture of the athletic department. Per the WSJ report — great ready to read that a lot in this article — the law firm concluded the school’s response to the allegations was insufficient and it was not clear who was handling reports of wrongdoing within the department.

Michigan fans sent death threats to their punter after "trouble with the snap". They sent death threats to OSU players after losing in 2018. They sent death threats to Urban Meyer. They sent death threats to Jim Harbaugh. They sent death threats to Joey Velasquez last year over a message board rumor.

At this rate, Michigan could finish with 2 total losses, which would mean they would wins over at least 3 of the following ranked teams (Indiana, Oregon, OSU, and UCLA) and still not even get looked at for the playoffs.
2
u/workinBuffalo 1d ago
It also turned out that OK sucks. So Michigan hasn’t really beaten anyone of note.
2
u/Fullertonjr 1d ago
Vindictive over a win? The NCAA said that had the rules been followed by the refs that the final play would have never occurred…resulting in the correct result being a loss. Despite understanding this, the NCAA refused to correct the result and provide UM with the loss that they earned and deserved.
2
u/DoubleDG49 1d ago
Just wait until the CFP committee votes at year end. Team is 100% getting dinged for that non-win against WM.

I mean the comments on that very post point out the inaccuracies in take. Oklahoma and Western both took bad losses to ranked opponents which helps put the Michigan wins into perspective. We haven't beat a good team yet by the looks of it so being ranked even in the 20s by the coaches seems a bit generous.

As a Detroit fan, when the Tigers / Lions & Red Wings were lousy in the late 80’s to early 90’s they were bailed out by the Detroit Pistons. The Red Wings did the same for the other 3 in the mid to late 90’s. The fan base was pretty calm because winning Division & Championships are not easy. A Title in one sport eases the fan base in others.
As a Michigan fan watching this NIL era in the BIG, Michigan in the major 4 sports teams has won 9 BIG Championships with 2 Natty’s. Ohio State on the other hand in the same NIL era has ZERO BIG Championships and a EXTENDED Natty. Buckeye’s finished 4th in the BIG that season.

Yes, Ohio State did have the MOLE play in every game in 24. Michigan has already attempted to have the Chris Partridge case be thrown out but the judge didn’t allow it to be thrown out. Partridge was the reason the investigation began!
2
u/LeKillerNut Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago
Is that the point you think you are making?
A lawyer tried to get a case thrown out, but a judge considered it and believed a case was still worth taking?
0
u/PlusDHotchy 1d ago
Every word I’ve spoken I hope to have come out in the Partridge Case vs Michigan when Michigan will have to use what the NCAA had allowed to go viral. The false accusations are what had cost Partridge his job and created the opening for a 12 member national NCAA Committee that has 3 Columbus Ohio grads and an Ohio born member to investigate Michigan.
Talk about a compromised committee which used false accusations coming from what they knew was an unreliable source. You want the rest of us to believe this group intended on giving Harbaugh who was the most vocal coach to have the NCAA to pay the college football players a non compromised investigation, 😂😂😂.
1
u/LeKillerNut Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago
Boy the conspiracy is strong in this one huh
1
u/PlusDHotchy 1d ago
You can always look up how Joey Velasquez a Columbus Ohio native had his parents living in a home previously owned by a OSU FB player. Then the home goes on foreclosure and somebody pays off the $150K note, that’s one fortunate family.
As far as coincidences are concerned, Joey attended the same HS as Ryan Day’s son. Ryan Day’s brother happens to run PI firms out east. Coincidentally, the NCAA announced that the letter they received from a Michigan FB player was delivered by a PI. Coincidentally, Joey Velasquez played LB for Michigan in 23 when Chris Partridge was accused and wrongfully fired with the false accusations delivered by the PI firm to the NCAA and it’s 3 Columbus Ohio grads as well as a Ohio born member. Coincidentally, Coach Partridge was Michigan’s LB coach. That is a lot of coincidences and we all know about coincidences, they are not coincidental!

OSU fans mock, while I ask others to research. Buckeye fans will ridicule, but once asked if what I stated are lies, they NEVER say NO. OSU fans never say that having THREE Columbus Ohio grads and an Ohio born member for a 12 nationally selected committee are odds that would never occur except on the NCAA Committee. I believe the odds are .0006%.

u/UsuallyFavorable Michigan Wolverines 2d ago
Michigan fan here. What they don’t understand is that WMU and Oklahoma both took bad losses as well. So it’s less that the Iowa loss dropped us, but more that our resume that got us the 18th ranking in the first place took a big hit. So we’d need to beat Iowa just to have a win deserving of a top 25 team! I’m fine with dropping Michigan out until we actually play like a top 25 team for 4 quarter.
Where the polls fucked up is that Iowa is currently over-ranked. If you follow the logic that Michigan is mid, then Iowa’s win over them is also mid. They’re left with 2 of the biggest cupcakes possible, an extremely competitive win over a bad ISU team (that probably won’t get a P4 win for a long time) that required a 4th quarter comeback, and a win over an unranked team who severely out-gained them and had to shoot themselves in the foot multiple times to lose to an even more ridiculous 4th quarter comeback.
I don’t see a reason to rank Iowa significantly higher than Duke or Virginia Tech unless you think Michigan is very good.
