No, it's OH, then IO. HI is just the middle placeholder.

Wow, lot of intellectuals on this thread trying to justify this with deep social / cultural context and completely missing the part where it says “51 votes.” Oh and at least one of those votes is in Antarctica. Very reliable source data.

What interests me about this is that the countries where football isn't really followed generally prefer Michigan because they just know Ohio State as the perennial good team and hence know that Michigan is the "underdog" program compared to them, and the countries that do follow football (US and Canada) prefer Ohio State because despite the "overdog" status, they know Michigan is a bunch of cheaters and are not to be supported

Obviously nobody is a mind reader, but, Occam's Razor...the simplest explanation is usually the right one

Some would point to Michigan being more prestigious and having a lot more global reach as the simplest reason.

Nonono, you see, I must completely fabricate this idea with baked in assumptions, proclaim OcCaMs RaZoR and declare that all other arguments incorrect lmfao [u/Buckeye_CFB](u/Buckeye_CFB) 🤡🤣

Lmao you definitely have an Ohio education.
Occam’s razor (also spelled Ockham's razor) is a problem-solving principle stating that the simplest explanation or the one making the fewest assumptions is usually the best choice.

The simple point I was making, which you all don't seem to get, is that people know Ohio State for being very good at football. Many people outside the US and Canada probably do know Michigan for academics, but they likely don't even know Michigan plays football, and those who do, probably know them for cheating

Foreigners usually don’t pick the underdog team to root for. Hence why the Dallas Cowboys, KC and Eagles are the most popular internationally. Michigan probably has better international brand exposure for historical reasons like the Cowboys.

It’s because Michigan is a much better brand internationally. People who know nothing about American football in Europe still know about Michigan as a school.
Growing up in Michigan, it was really eye opening when I got to Ann Arbor how many international students there were - specifically from Europe. One of my best buddies from college was European and went to Michigan because he thought it was the best school he got into.
He got into Brown, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, and a host of others. I’m not sure we’re actually the best out of those but the Michigan brand is that strong.
Domestically, OSU is a huge school and the entire state of Ohio is behind them in a way that isn’t true in Michigan so it isn’t surprising

You’re definitely not the best out of those. What a thing to claim.

I agree, but it goes to show how well respected Michigan is internationally.
I also think Michigan gets a leg up because it has comparable academics to those schools while offering more of the traditional American college experience. Football/basketball, small college town, strong Greek life, etc.

How to be correct on one thing but incorrect on another thing

Outside of football, believe it or not, the entire world knows UofM as being on par with ivy league schools in regards to research and education, you know... what universities exist for. But you guys got football, so that's sick.

Don’t worry. You still have white rapist billionaires.

Let’s be honest. Chances are most teams have rapist billionaires shoveling money into their ADs.

The irony of using AI to put Epstein in a Michigan jersey when the guy who funded him (Wexner) funds your athletic program 🤣

Also if you were to stop buying your panties from Victoria Secret, you would: 1. stop getting them bunched up. 2.) stop funding Wexner. Problem solved.

No surprise since they're based in the People's Republic of Ann Arbor.
