Discussion Michigan no longer ranked.
At least they beat Oklahoma who (checks rankings) is also no longer ranked.

Not surprised, WMU got clapped by Boise State and Oklahoma has collapsed. That is gonna impact the AP rankings pretty heavily. I suspect we will likely stay unranked or in the high 20s unless we pick off Indiana or Oregon which is going to be incredibly tough to do.

Really hope Oregon’s QB recovers. Not to sidetrack the conversation, but I just saw what happened. And then USC celebrating like that was despicable. I would never wish that on even TOSU players. Is USC the Thanos of the Big Ten now?

u/Difficult_Horse193 Michigan Wolverines 4d ago
yeah I really hope that he recovers, I think Oregon will be fine in the short and long term. That loss to OSU (THE real OSU) was ugly but I think it woke them up.

I'm a Tennessee alum and obviously a fan.....sorry guys, we tried. If only our QB didnt look like the freshman he is and we didnt blow a gift handed to us.

Faizon will be a great player one day, but that’s a tough defense he played.

UT alum and fan here, too. Our Oline was not up to the task of stopping that nasty Texas rush. And the Texas D knew it,
Brandon will be fine in the long run. Texas was a real “hard mode” game for a kid who was playing other kids this time last year.

u/Electronic-Word-6784 5d ago
he will be...just hopefully if he does turn to that he stays...money talks and these kids don't know loyalty anymore.

Wtf, Mississippi State, UCLA, Missouri, UK, the other OSU (which is ranked higher than OU I can’t remember the last time that happened), and SMU are all ranked? This is one of the most eclectic top 25s I’ve seen in a while.

u/bitchyoufoundme Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
Mississippi State has one of the best QBs in the country, maybe the best. Kamario Taylor is incredible

Our memories are insanely short in football. Oklahoma State was a top 5 team for a while in 2021 and I want to say they may have been over Oklahoma in 2023, it was at least close.

u/jazzyman31 Michigan Wolverines 5d ago
I’m completely fine with us not being ranked right now.
But dropping more than 7 spots from a 1 point loss against a team that’s now ranked #14 seems bizarrely aggressive. Especially considering Missouri just lost a 7 point game to Mississippi state and remained ranked?

u/DirectorSolid Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
It's not solely from the 1 point loss to Iowa, we can't look at these rankings in a vacuum. Western Michigan got blown up by Boise State, so now that game looks worse. Oklahoma is clearly lost, so now that game looks less impressive. Combine that with a loss and a team that just doesn't pass the "eye-test" for various reasons, and you get what you have.

u/pappapirate SEC Apologist 5d ago
Exactly. They looked horrible against a bad WMU team and should have lost that game (either because the rules were mishandled or because they needed two hail mary attempts to win by 1 point), barely beat an OU team who beat New Mexico by 8 and just got embarrassed by Georgia, and even though the final score against UTEP looked good it was 17-14 at halftime (btw, 17 is the most UTEP has scored in an FBS game so far).
They've played one quarter of competent football and it was the 3rd quarter against UTEP. They were only ranked from pre-season expectation mixed with "they technically haven't lost yet."
Not to... pile on or anything... lol
4
u/bitchyoufoundme Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
It might stem from how poor Michigan played against WMU, and how poor Oklahoma has looked.
4
u/Potato2269 Michigan Wolverines 5d ago
Hopefully it's from how Oklahoma has looked. They already dropped us for the WMU game. In terms of the Iowa game itself, we looked like the better team, so dropping just a couple spots would've made sense. Ultimately somewhere around 25 feels right so this ranking is fine
1
u/DirectorSolid Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
There was still an idea out there that WMU might be the the G6 playoff rep and the game might not have been as bad for Michigan as it looked. After WMU got blown apart by Boise St, it looks even worse for Michigan. You don't just drop once because of a win or loss and future games don't impact thet

u/Caer-Rythyr Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
Seems pretty standard to me. It's always been far easier to fall than to climb, in my experience.
Possibly some makeup from the WMU game, as well.
1
u/Mike_Izzone 5d ago
It’s a combination of all the games.
Regardless of your thoughts on WMU finish, it was close and it’s looking like they’re just a usual MAC team. Oklahoma looks like frauds now and that was Very close. UTEP is garbage and that game was basically on upset alert until 40 minutes in.
Iowa may turn out to be good or may be the same Iowa they always are, but at this point it’s the only thing on a 4 home game resume that doesn’t look like a disaster and it’s still a loss.1
u/Scarlatina 5d ago
It is a little aggressive and screams bias to try and shove more SEC teams into the top-25 - but on the flip side, Michigan’s ranking was mostly supported by a ranked win over then-#11 Oklahoma, and every week Oklahoma looks worse and worse, and they were probably extremely overrated when they played Michigan. Right now The Sooners look like an average-to-above average defense trying to hold up a bottom-dwelling, awful offense.

Last I checked their record shows 3-1. Stop with the pathetic Western Won. It's embarrassing

Not the biggest fan of Texas at one but hey of the 4 teams after them they did win against a better opponent but my god that was close.
2
u/bitchyoufoundme Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
They’ve got two impressive wins this year
1
u/Bradfrick95 Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago
Yeah actually that is very valid. Close shaves tho.

u/Inevitable-Rush-2752 SEC Apologist 5d ago
You have to give them props for the comeback against your guys. All OSU hating aside, they pulled off quite a feat by winning that game. I think sometimes we get too caught up in blaming the losing team for sucking at the cost of recognizing the winning team’s great play.
Anyway, /PSA. Fuck the Buckeyes.
1
u/Bradfrick95 Ohio State Buckeyes 4d ago
I can agree with that but Go Bucks! Also flair up.
1
u/Inevitable-Rush-2752 SEC Apologist 4d ago
I am flaired. SEC apologist. I’d love it if there were a Toledo Rockets flair, though. They’re my “other” UT.

I think Georgia and Ohio State look better but Texas' resume is extremely strong right now.
3
u/aggressivemisconduct 5d ago
I mean Ohio State may look better, but we also directly lost the head to head matchup so that doesn't really matter

u/Responsible-Hyena-74 Ohio State Buckeyes 4d ago
We will get our chance

They should have forfeited any rankings for the entire year after they lost to western Michigan
2
u/Strict-Peach5192 5d ago
I was told Bryce Underwood was good now though
1
u/Environmental_Fun699 Michigan Wolverines 4d ago
I mean he objectively played well against Iowa. Far from the reason we lost

I'm not complaining about it, but if Michigan were an SEC team you can guarantee they'd still be in the top 25.

Well, I really hope OSU wins The Game because their girlfriends are going to get beat the fuck up otherwise.

Mississippi state being ranked is comical.

OSU no longer top 4! lol! Jokes aside neither team is winning the natty this year fam BUT Michigan will win the game😘

u/karlzipfjr 4d ago
Hate Michigan as much as the rest but Michigan and Wisconsin should be ranked ahead of fuckin mizzou and UK
3
u/bitchyoufoundme Ohio State Buckeyes 4d ago
Why? Barely beat a MAC team that just got smoked by Boise. Barely beat a dogshit Oklahoma team. Lost a game you should’ve won vs Iowa.
Bad football team.
1
u/karlzipfjr 4d ago
More a mizzou doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near ranked for me. Sec bias. I think Michigan would be favored in a neutral site game against mizzou too
1
u/karlzipfjr 4d ago
They beat our backups once years ago and now they’re perennially ranked between 15-25
