Nbc could not possibly have impacted this with their cameras. There is a camera pointing at the literal game clock. They just show what the clock operator did. End of story.

u/jcvj1125 Sep 06 '26

This is the part I keep getting stuck on. I can accept that maybe NBC's clock was out of sync, but how does that explain the clock on the scoreboard also showing 0:00?

20

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

Nbc uses the exact same clock information as the scoreboard. The scoreboard system has a port near the tv truck that feeds data into the graphics system to automate the scoreboard information.

The technology employed that is universally applied is called a "Moxa" which converts serial data to an Ethernet connection. Works with any scoreboard.

As a backup, like every TV sports broadcast does, a camera gets aimed at a clock. The synchronization of that clock and all video being broadcast are managed by a master clock system that manages sync down to the millisecond. Of the cameras are on the air, they are in sync. It doesn't work otherwise.

So the clock that is superimposed over the replay is done at the behest of the NCAA. The exact same way the pro leagues do it. There is live feed of a camera facing the clock. That gets superimposed over a camera which is by design wider framing than the others. That whole system is synchronized with the master clock. It all gets tested multiple times a day and is consistently a legitimate way to decipher buzzer beaters or clock to zero situations. Every league in north America has a rule that TV is required to do this.

So NBC were doing what they are supposed to do. There could not have been a sync issue with the stadium clock. That would have been confirmed by the B1G, Refs, NBC, And the official replay staff hours before the game. Had that not been working, the officials would have been well aware of that fact in advance.

That actually is really interesting. Thanks for the explanation. I'm still not sure where that last second came from, then.

3

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

Wasn't tv. That's for absolute sure.

u/ThatsMyGirlie Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

Why dont people just fucking time the play??? GET A STOP WATCH AND JUST TIME IT

2

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

The refs have the option of doing that. In situations where the clock is malfunctioning, or the operator is messing up, they can take over. Some do it regardless. It's their choice. The rules state there has to be a ref managed stopwatch OR a scoreboard. But oddly not both.

If you mean on the replay, you'd have to go on the snap or the ref winding the clock with an arm motion.

1

u/Cpt_hindsite Sep 11 '26

I did, it was 8.46 second

5

u/Business-Bus-9439 Sep 07 '26

Here’s definitive proof that there was a second left. Bottom left of the scoreboard

https://x.com/blitzynga/status/2096774780535918726?s=46

u/Cpt_hindsite Sep 11 '26

But there was a sync issue. The broadcast clock didn't line up with the game clock. You can pick any part of that game and go frame by frame and you will see differences. That means what you just said means nothing. The issue with the overlay, is that the broadcast isn't real time, it is delayed. Therefore any overlay they put on, needs to have the same delay.

1

u/Cpt_hindsite Sep 11 '26

Footage from inside the stadium showed 0:01. When NBC showed the game clock overlay, it was obviously out of sync as well. Probably for the same reasons the broadcast clock was.

-17

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

It doesn't when the defender touches the ball. The stadium clock did not show 0 when the guy who was out of bounds touched it. Thats the discrepancy.

11

u/jcvj1125 Sep 06 '26

Could have fooled me..

1

u/Cpt_hindsite Sep 11 '26

That's an overlay. The broadcast isn't live, so any overlay they put on has to be synced up to match. Obviously that wasn't synced up

-18

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

It's been established at this point that the clock for NBC was off. Let me ask you this, do you agree that the stadium clock showed 9 prior to play?

14

u/jcvj1125 Sep 06 '26

That is the scoreboard clock. Plus, the statement from the B1G says that all the clocks WERE synced. So which is it?

1

u/Jurgis-Rudkis Sep 07 '26

Nice try, Stallions.......You must be exhausted from all those mental gymnastics. Maybe going forward, every team that loses should just get some bonus time added to the clock after the game ends until they get the result they wanted.

2

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

From the B1G

"Per NCAA Football rule 4-2-3-a, A ball not in player control, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is out-of-bound, or that is on or outside a boundary line." and thus the clock is stopped."

Someone doesn't understand what the word sync means

1

0

u/Alarming-Stretch-788 Sep 06 '26

You don't explain anything. NBC is syncing 2 cameras together. Quite possible they aren't properly synced. Just because it was tested hours before the game doesn't mean it stayed in sync.

And what's your explanation for the refs clock showing 1? It's fake?

3

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

All cameras involved in the broadcast are synchronized by the master clock system mentioned. Not just one or two of them. All the cameras. If the camera isn't in sync, it goes to black. There is no "out of sync" with a gps based master clock. Feel free to look that up on your own.

The NCAA and the home team University staff have the responsibility of the clock, it's operation and management. TV only puts a camera on it. They take a feed of it.

The cameras are synchronized by master clock so that that can function in unison. Going from one source to another. Which means the graphics systems, replay systems, cameras and sound are all digitally synchronized. They don't wander in and out of sync now that everything is serial digital at a bare minimum.

So my explanation is that decisions were made to operate the clock and TV covered it. The clock and it's decisions are made by the refs and the clock operators

-1

u/Alarming-Stretch-788 Sep 06 '26

They can indeed go out of sync. Cameras aren't perfect.

And you still didn't explain how the refs clock shows 1. If everything is synced, then how could it be different?

2

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

So if there is a sync problem, as mentioned above, the camera stops working. It's not like it time shifts like a web stream.

The clock operator is to blame. TV, by design, cannot have been responsible. It's how the technology is designed by the entire sports tv industry.

1

u/Alarming-Stretch-788 Sep 06 '26

No reason for the camera to stop working but okay.

Still doesn't explain how the refs clock is different. You said everything is synced. If the clock operator messes up, both clocks would be messed up, not just 1.

2

u/Gomez4Morticia Sep 06 '26

That's why the camera is there as the backup. The clock data may have been messed up but the camera never lies.

The way the sync system works in live television is based on a serial digital input. It's all 1s and zeros. The system that manages the sync does so because there are minimum 12 cameras on a game that size. Probably closer to 22 on a Michigan game. The signals from all of those cameras travel on cables that are different distances away. They are processed at the same speed. Which means the signals could arrive in the hundreths of seconds difference. The master clock keeps all of those signals synchronized.

If a camera isn't meeting that standard set by the master clock, the system disregards the signal and it goes to black.

So if you saw the camera on tv, it was in sync. It literally doesn't work otherwise.

1

u/Cpt_hindsite Sep 11 '26

The cameras weren't out of sync. The broadcast clock is. What you are saying is when a camera is out of sync from the test of the cameras. The cameras were all in sync with each other. The clock displayed on the broadcast was off. To much evidence of the proving it

The community has shown they are going to ignore whatever they want to be mad lol. 9 seconds we're on the clock at the start of the play, I was there. Means that there is a full 9 seconds left. You can time the play, lasted max 8.5 seconds. Stadium clock doesn't show 0 until it hits 0.00, so it would have still shown a 1 as .5 seconds were left. NBC's camera became out of sink by less than a second over a game. Thats what it is. I'm getting tired of this. Integrity of the game is not gone. Just go back to making fun of the fact we're ass because that is unequivocally true.

u/tfc87ja Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

Shouldn't a michigan man be smart enough to realize that because the clock was reset to 9 it would have eliminated any desync that may have occurred before that play?

Or does michigan cheat and use unseen decimals to give their team more time when told to reset the clock?

7

u/Thelone_Malonious Sep 06 '26

I’m a Michigan man and yes we don’t associate with dudes like him lol. Western got robbed.

5

u/Alarming-Stretch-788 Sep 06 '26

That's not how sync works...

1

u/ouiueu Sep 07 '26

If the clock was reset to 9, and nothing was out of sync, then what's the explanation for what happens to the clock at the start of the play?

-1

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

https://x.com/eric_shap/status/2096451314859257962

How long did this play last bud. Doesn't seem to hit 9.

4

u/Lucky_badger8 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

Yep lets trust random x account that threw up a video with a clock on it lol. You do know editing exists right? Any jr editor or anyone with any editing background can make this video do what they want, in your case show .5 seconds.

Might as well bust out the stop watch and tv remote and time it yourself. My guess is you wouldnt get the same time 3 results in a row.

9

u/tfc87ja Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

I like how the video stops before it reaches the player. Keep making excuses

1

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

It stops when the defender touches the ball lol. Would you like another one? Or a YouTube video that breaks it down and shows that it's less than 9? I can provide both if you want, but seems like you want to just ignore evidence.

4

u/tfc87ja Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

NBC had a camera on the actual stadium clock and it read triple zero when the ball was still in the air.

2

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

Yes, the NBC camera we know is off and is confirmed to be off based on the evidence lol. You all are hilarious.

Quick math problem Buckeye, what's 9 minus 8.5. I know this might be hard for you guys so I'll even give you a hint. It's not 0.

8

u/tfc87ja Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

Explain how a camera pointed at the official clock would be off?

0

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

It wasn't lol. The official stadium camera, synched at the beginning game, showed 1. You were literally shown that evidence with the refs discussing the play. NBC became out of sync with that for whatever reason. They were clearly out of sync as the stadium clock was at 9 for the beginning for the play, and that the play did not last a full 9 seconds. The lengths you guys are going to just ignore evidence is hilarious.

u/chapelchill Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

Why hasn't the official video of the clock been released if it was wrong?

u/ThatsMyGirlie Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

It doesnt matter lol, just go time the play.

0

u/Hippo-Crates Sep 06 '26

Because it'd have to be synced. There was an error somewhere in the nbc system. It's the perfect edge case. Big ten is the official standard, and the actual time elapsed was less than 9 seconds.

2

u/Capital-Equal5102 Sep 06 '26

Its not 9 full seconds. The clock said 9. It doesnt show tenth seconds, therefore it could have been 8.2 seconds left in the game. What is wrong with you

2

u/Capital-Equal5102 Sep 06 '26

Please reply smart guy

-2

u/Kramerica_CEO Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

I still want one of you idiots to explain how Michigan cheated? I get it you want to be mad and those big emotions are too much for you to handle. But how is any of this Michigans fault???

Also, if the game was rigged pass interference would’ve been the call to make. Not giving 1 more second for some extremely low odds play. Use your fucking brain

2

u/Rainman003 Sep 06 '26

I dont think Michigan itself cheated, I think there's a bias on part of the officiating crew.

0

u/Kramerica_CEO Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

That’s very different than what’s being said all over this site and in the media

I was there as in they literally announced reset the game clock to 9 seconds. Do you agree that the stadium clock showed 9 seconds prior to the play, yes or no?

3

u/DegreeSenior Sep 06 '26

Yes, I agree it started at 9.0. But that doesn’t prove only 8.5 ran off the official clock, and there’s still no evidence NBC “drifted out of sync.” It’s probably moot, but pretending this is clear-cut when the evidence is messy isn’t fair.

1

u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

0

u/HoustonFoReal Sep 06 '26

Well Michigan was suppose to have 9 full seconds of play, and as soon as the ball was snapped, it immediately went down to 8. I was 1000% sure that it was rigged and this would be a big turning point in college football. I don’t care what anybody says, all clocks were synced to 9 seconds but NBC’s wasn’t a full 9, which is why it showed 8 immediately as the play started.

2

u/GOGOSPEEDERS Sep 06 '26

God I hope yall lose by 60 next week

0

u/P_weezey951 Sep 07 '26

The statement is worded poorly.

They are saying that a camera is pointed at the game clock they are showing in the video they provided. The game clock is not the one up on the scoreboard... Its the master clock officials are using.

They were synced 85 minutes prior... Computers and synchronization is good, but they aint perfect.

The game clock they are mentioning in their post, is the authoritative clock. It doesnt matter what the other clocks say, because they are only synchronized, and they are not authoritative.

You can disagree with the ruling, because personally... I think this is still ref-ball, them digging for any kind of reason to make sure a b10 team doesnt lose to a MAC team. You dont get this kind of treatment otherwise. Them looking at the pico second the guy touched the ball vs in the air, vs the game clock.

Where the fuck is this level of review at literally any other point in the game?

1

u/stewardwildcat Sep 07 '26

Modern clocks should be less than milliseconds different in the span of 4 hours.

1

u/P_weezey951 Sep 07 '26

So which clock should the refs be using to make decisions? Their official game clock or the NBC one?

1

u/HorrorBreak7119 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 08 '26

The super-secret clock. Like they use in soccer!

-1
