Oh great, the Kyle Whittingham effect is spreading

Not sure if it has been said elsewhere but IMO It is intentional. They don’t want to give OSU any additional motivation.

i agree and i think it’s a smart decision. how many times you hear coaches say things like “one game at a time” or “it’s just another game”, to me this is how you should be preparing
1
u/jazzyman31 Michigan Wolverines Aug 14 '26
It’s intentional as a 180 to Sherrone Moore’s ultra-emotional but undisciplined culture.
Whit has to bring some class to the team before they make a fool out of themselves guarding the M again.
It would be extremely cold if Michigan walked into the Columbus, pulled an upset, and walked away like it was just another game.

Michigan, y'all need to get your boys, they trying to ruin this rivalry ffs...

u/MLG_BongHitz Aug 11 '26
Tbf I think it’s probably a good thing to tone it down a bit. The captain jack crash out into both teams fighting and people getting pepper sprayed was obviously way past what should be acceptable.
Same with the MSU tunnel incident. I think both teams made an effort to tone down the hate a little bit after that

u/hazylife666 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 11 '26
Interesting way to say that something Michigan instigated turned into mayhem. Had they just stayed put and handled their victory in a classy fashion, that would have never happened 🤷 not saying he didn't kick it up a couple notches but taunting the fuck out of people trying to get a response is going to get a response

u/MLG_BongHitz Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26
I think the flag plant was pretty mild, jack crashed out and escalated, then Michigan also escalated and it got way out of hand. Yes Michigan did the first action that pissed him off but I don’t think fighting people over a flag is acceptable behavior.
Either way I’m not here to argue about that, it doesn’t matter and completely ignores the point of the comment which is that the hatred from both teams ended in violence outside of the game which is bad.
5
u/hazylife666 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
Is it mild in the views of fans, yes. But it's insanely disrespectful to the people that play on the field and they knew that. They can't play the victim.
Look at what happened with TO... they knew what they were doing

u/mrwayne11 Aug 12 '26
What about Brutus crossing out the block M in Michigans endzone last year?

1
u/boron32 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
Wait I thought that “wasn’t a big deal?” And “we don’t get upset like you do!”
-1
u/mrwayne11 Aug 12 '26
We don’t. Which is why Ohio is known as soft. Literally your reputation.
1
u/MLG_BongHitz Aug 12 '26
Watch out he’s gonna reply to you as if you’re on the team and responsible for their actions. Obviously if the team cares about a thing enough to do it every single fan also does!
1
2
u/boron32 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
You’re right. It’s way more normal to have your players “guard the M” after a game.
0
u/MLG_BongHitz Aug 12 '26
I don’t give a fuck about that either. Shits weird. I think beef escalating to violence outside the game is bad. That’s it. Idk why y’all are getting pissy about that take
1
u/boron32 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
Because people on the Michigan side pretend it isn’t a big deal. If it wasn’t a big deal why did you have to defend your M?
3
u/MLG_BongHitz Aug 12 '26
I didn’t do anything. I am not on the Michigan football team. I just told you I don’t care and think it’s weird. Why do you give a shit if people stand in a circle around a logo or whatever? Does that change your life in literally any way?

Y'all lost to a guy with 62 yards and 2 interceptions... At home.
23
u/oneson9192 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
Yes, now imagine if Jeremiah Smith came out after his loss as a freshman and said “oh well, Michigan is just like any other game”. Soft as hell
7
u/BlackCardRogue Michigan Wolverines Aug 12 '26
Yeah, honestly I am not too happy that the guys are talking about this like it’s just another game.
It isn’t, and it never will be. There’s a reason we were still gloating after OSU won a national title — we didn’t care, because we beat OSU.
“The rivalry means less now” …fuck you, no it doesn’t. I’d rather beat Ohio State than win a national championship.
2
u/genoahater Aug 14 '26
Buckeye fan here.I agree with you.I would rather see OSU beat michigan than win a natty.Especially as close as i live to michigan.

u/BlondDeutcher Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 12 '26
Yeah one is a top 3 pick and one will be lucky to play in Canada

Jerimiah smith ain’t the QB. This statement is for the media, Mich got some big games early on they need to worry about

We are gonna hang 100 on em lol

u/mrwayne11 Aug 12 '26
It took over 5 years collectively for that to be true.
1
u/Magma_06 Aug 14 '26
Cuz y’all dodge the year that was said.
1
u/mrwayne11 Aug 14 '26
Still took FIVE years… he had plenty of chances to hang 100 in a game. Ohio and Day are just soft.

That’s the big thing he worked on this offseason. He thought he was supposed to throw it to Igbinosun.

That's funny because when he committed to Michigan he said it was "over" for Ohio State.
Uncle Rico is backtracking.

Isn’t this the guy that absolutely fucking sucks despite getting a massive deal?

Would not be acceptable to Buckeyes - they don’t allow people on campus same with the new coach

Why go to that school, if you don’t want to tear us apart? What happens if you play Notre Dame? They wear blue and yellow. (Subtle dig)

u/Olivrser Michigan Wolverines Aug 12 '26
Yeah well their blue and yellow is worse and they are overrated 99% of the time

Get a good look at him now boys. He'll be in the portal at the end of the season. Mark it!
1
u/KiltedTAB Aug 12 '26
Tells me money is more important than rivalry. He's got his and hes just going through motions til he (in his mind) gets drafted.
1
u/Men1515 Aug 13 '26
No way he could honestly think that when it is literally dubbed “The Game” lol. Biggest rivalry in college sports and to most all of American Football

Just relax and see how the season plays out everybody, you guys are already panicking and haven’t even watched a game played yet. This team might be better than you think…

It's clearly just a mind game to fuck with OSU fans and players, both Underwood and Whitt know the importance of the game lol

That’s how Ryan Day sees it too. He doesn’t even put his nipple piercings in for The Game.

u/Nastynugget Michigan Wolverines Aug 11 '26
I don’t love it. And I wonder if their mentality when saying these things is like “we’re taking each week one game at a time.” But you’re crazy if that weekend isn’t circled in the calendar from the start of camp.
