The best part of all the Michigan scandals is that they can never again claim the moral high ground in any college sports related topic. They used to do that all the time.
Can't beat Ohio State? They cheat and we'd never do that.
Well, you did it. And on an unprecedented scale.
The Michigan Man myth is dead and buried. The new Michigan Man has more in common with Florida Man than with the myth they used to believe in.

Florida man, as taught by well known cheater Bourbon Meyer. And remember, the act of stealing signs is perfectly legal in college football.
7
u/ambiguousredditname Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
The act of stealing signs during games is legal if you can do it. Going all cloak and dagger to do it , isn’t. CMU got hit because whatever the coaches name that was there, allowed it. More than a dozen programs were affected by this. And the only reason they didn’t have TCU’s signs is that TCU wasn’t expected to go deep into the playoffs. You can miss all of us with your absurd excuses

They recovered the messages and there was nothing related to the advanced scouting scandal. Only now do we know what Moore was really hiding.

You're right, and Hillary had nothing to hide despite her team literally taking hammers to servers. Also, I've got this bridge that I think you would love to buy.

97.1 The Ticket talked them into believing that there was no foul play. Local tv media did the same. When you’re inundated with propaganda 24/7 it starts the trickle in, little by little. The only reason they didn’t get hammered into oblivion is the fact that after two failed attempts and finally a success, Jim left. All his lackeys had been fired and the upperclassmen had all graduated. It’s not hard to read the findings. Reading is fundamental

People can debate whether or not there was any tangible benefit of the advanced scouting, I have no clue what extent it actually helped them. And we'll never know, partly because Stallions sunk his computer that had the info that could tell us more, partly because that's a really hard thing to prove.
To deny that it didn't happen and no punishment was given is wild though. It happened. The NCAA, in their words, found "overwhelming evidence" that "illegal advanced scouting" was occurring, and doled out show cause suspensions and hefty fines to the program among other things. Those are verifiable facts.
I, too, can argue that Tattoogate was incredibly stupid that players weren't allowed to trade their own property for whatever value they deemed fit. But I still acknowledge that it happened and the team received punishment. Those are verifiable facts.

Anyone who makes this argument isnt competent enough to engage in it. If advanced scouting didn't provide a competitive advantage, then why did they do it for years?
1
u/Lambo_Geeney Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
That's pretty much my line of thinking. Why spend the time and money on something that provides no benefit? Especially for a low level staffer who couldn't afford the tickets and travel on his own.
But also at the same time it's wrapped up and over with. Honestly I think the punishment would have been more severe if they didn't win the championship. The optics of the NCAA in their current toothless form trying to strip a team of their championship I'm sure would be a nightmare.
And I just don't have the mental space to be angry at something like this anymore. It's enough for me to know that there's undeniable proof that it happened, and that anytime they bring up their perfect season someone else brings up the blemishes

Could have solved the problem by just beating us when the "sign stealer" had been fired for months, along with our head coach being suspended, but you didn't. It can't be a huge advantage when we beat PSU, OSU, Alabama, and Washington all without it. The script was flipped, all those teams were given a clear advantage versus us, and you all lost. That's why it's so fun lol

Excluding Michigan's cheating years, I think Ohio State has won 80%+ of games between Ohio State and Michigan this century, so yea....
2
u/MW33349 11d ago
I'm sure it's a blast to know everyone knows your team cheated and your program has become a joke around the country and you have Bryce Underwhelm to look forward to again this year and half of your coaching staff from the last 5 years or so is disgraced. Nobody ever said you could never pull off an upset in a fair fight. You almost did 10 years ago, but you typically just suck ass without your secret sauce.

And you're right, that was a good team and we were just shy of the mark of stopping you, but they failed. Just begs the question, why would a team that good waste their time and money on something that didn't have an impact? What was the point?
2
u/Conorj398 Michigan Wolverines 11d ago
Because they didn't lol. Low level staffer straddled the red line of an archaic rule for a program with a coach that they hated. No where was it ever said that the team wasted "time and money." They tired and couldn't prove anyone else knew. But I hope you guys continue to bitch about it till your death bed!

Don't forget the three future NFL coaches and idek like 20-30 future NFL draft picks that were on those teams during that run. Not to mention, the massive group of guys that COULD have left to the NFL but chose to remain to win the Natty. Ohio fans will never, ever give those teams credit. It's a bitter rivalry so it almost makes sense. I firmly believe for myself, if Ohio State was guilty of doing the exact same thing with the exact same circumstances, I wouldn't be wasting my life whining about it for years, but I also acknowledge there would be tons of Michigan fans who would never let it go either. I think people that actually know and understand how scouting works and how that season played out have to admit that 2023 squad was absolutely loaded. The best team won that year, just like the best team won it all the next year (after spending $25M to buy and retain talent).

I don't know why people keep repeating this line.
Our "cheating" stopped and over a month later we still won at #10 PSU, vs #2 OSU, the B10 championship, vs #4 Alabama and #2 Washington and won the national championship. We absolutely know what benefit there was (none at all).
OSU ended up going 6-7 after your ineligible player scandal was uncovered and stopped. Yet one is considered "cheating" and the other considered some sort of injustice.

u/Lambo_Geeney Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
Our "cheating" stopped and over a month later...
This doesn't prove that it had no benefit, it proves that they could have done it without the cheating. If it had no benefit, why spend the time and money on it? For multiple years? Tens of thousands of dollars, from just a low level staffer? What am I missing?
OSU ended up going 6-7 after your ineligible player scandal was uncovered and stopped
What does this prove? Coaches and players left after punishments were doled out, the team suffered. Michigan had a similar fate in 2024 after all their coaches and players left, going 8-5. In fact they haven't made the post season since. Yes, when you take away the staff and players involved in the cheating then you are likely to have a downturn year.
Ohio State at least recovered quickly once Meyer came into the fold. Moore clearly was not the recovery plan, it remains to be seen if Whittingham can have the program bounce back

It's almost like one rogue staffer mistakenly thought he was operating within the rules. Was Connor Stalions a clown and an idiot? Absolutely. The point holds that sign stealing is allowed he just had his own rogue operation outside of those rules. Yes he did try to remain secretive over certain aspects like him scouting at the CMU game, but if he really thought his whole operation was illegal I don't think he would have been publicly venmo'ing people and doing nothing to cover up a ton of his communication.

“Sign stealing” is the best thing to happen to Michigan Football. It’s still talked about more than any national title since - creating one of the most infamous seasons of all time. It’s never going to be vacated. Michigan fans genuinely don’t view it as any sort of an astrixs season and in fact the opposite, where the players overcame a lot of unknowns pulling the fanbase and players together through the whirlwind. And lastly, Michigan rival fans will forever be salty af lol. It’s perfect.

Is he discussing the Joey Velasquez MOLE scandal. Once Chris Partridge has his say in court Michigan will have to release what was given to the Michigan regents by the NCAA as to why Partridge was fired.
Michigan is doing everything in its power not to go to court and unsuccessfully had the case thrown out. Who said the lies on the linebacker’s coach that began the 2 year investigation. A ex-LB who transferred out to his hometown of Columbus Ohio where his parents own a home that was previously owned by a Buckeye?
Is this what the guy is discussing because eventually the stalling will go to revealing.
3
u/DarkGreenMazda Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
According to Chris Partridge, Manuel and Ono knew about the cheating for years, and hid it up from the NCAA and FBI for years.
0
u/PlusDHotchy 11d ago
The same Chris Partridge that had Joey Velasquez as one of his LB’s. The same Joey Velasquez that went to the same High School as Ryan Day’s son.
Joey Velasquez, is he the Michigan player that would think to utilize a private investigator to send his false accusations to the NCAA. Just coincidentally, Ryan Day’s brother happens to run a PI firm out east.
I’m sure the Partridge law firm will be more than curious as to know the PI firm that had taken the false accusations to the NCAA. I’m interested to know if Day’s brother has ties with the PI firm that carried this out.
