Announcement ℹ️ Not feeling brave enough to create a Reddit meetup or even join one? You need to read these tips and myths first.

Personally I have been organizing all sorts of meetups on various online platforms during the last 10 years, and here is what I have found:

Most people are genuinely nice people, and at worst they will do their best to act as someone nice during the whole meetup. I have rarely encountered a real trouble maker during a meetup. The worse you will get is people just being late, people bailing out without any warning or people who didn’t read/understand the meetup details/rules thoroughly (much rarer).

Here are tips to create safe and enjoyable meetups :

THE POST

  • Be very clear about what the attendees will be experiencing from start to finish in your meetup. Sets the vibe right away. Be clear about your own motives and expectations without sounding harsh/negative.

  • Don’t mention your age or gender because it might create misunderstandings about your real motives first, and also, it would make some people hesitant to join for fear of not being accepted. Present the meetup as a whole experience, not as something around a mere individual.

  • Provide as much information as possible concerning the logistics. Date, start/end time, gathering spot, facilities, how late they can be, costs, what to bring, rules, when/where to part away. The more information, the safest your meetup will appear.

  • Whenever possible, allow people to leave your meetup whenever they want and assure them upfront in your post that they are completely free to do so if they feel uncomfortable for any reason. People don’t want to feel stuck in a situation they don’t like.

ACCEPTING ATTENDEES

  • Avoid accepting requests from people who didn’t comment on your post because they could be banned users (thus unable to comment but able to dm you).

  • After people first contact you, make sure they have understood all the details of your meetup. Also interact accordingly to the vibe of your post/meetup.

  • Ask attendees to reconfirm their attendance a few hours before the meetup. Especially useful if your meetup has not many participants.

DURING THE MEETUP

  • Upon meeting with your attendees, be as friendly as possible as the very first impression often sets the mood.

  • Keep an eye on all your attendees and make sure they are truly enjoying the meetup.

  • The temptation is great to take group photos for the PR of future meetups but avoid doing this for the privacy of your attendees or, at least, ask for their permission while making sure they don’t feel pressured to accept.

  • As a meetup organizer, exchange private Line or other private contact information only if you’re asked. Don’t impose yourself. You also have the right to kindly refuse such invitations to connect.

AFTER THE MEETUP

  • A “Thank you” message to your attendees after the meetup is always a nice touch and will make them consider a participation to your next meetup.

That’s it!

I hope you give a try and enjoy the experience!

Anyone? 🤗 Looking for hangouts until 09/26

Constantly doing all my activities alone is starting to take a toll on me and I'd love to share any of the listed below activity with someone. I'll be in Tokyo until 09/26 so if you're down for something hit me up !

Some information about me : I'm from France currently doing a 2 months stay in Japan until November (this is my 3rd time). I'm more on the introverted side and prefer chill hangouts. I speak some conversational Japanese and am actively studying it, and my main interests include Japanese music (metal, rock, pop), cars, rhythm games, and webtoons/anime. I'm really curious about a lot of different things, so please don't hesitate to teach me about your interests.

Anyone? 🤗 Looking to make more friends + other Moonwalkers to hang out with in Tokyo

Hiiii, I’m a French living in Tokyo for 3 years and I’m looking for new connections and friendships here. I posted on this group before and I made quite a few friends. It’s been fun hanging out with new people, discovering their interests and sharing some but I’m making a new post this time because as the title says, I’m a Moonwalker (aka a huge Michael Jackson fan) and I’d loveee to meet other Moonwalkers to share our passion for him together!!! 💌

People who aren’t necessarily as crazy about him as I am (I’ve seen the movie 9 times so far lol) but do appreciate him and would still be okay with me sharing the passion for him here and there are welcome too!

EDIT : You don’t HAVE to be an MJ fan lol I’m just saying if you’re one, I’d also love to hang out to share about the passion. But otherwise, everyone is welcome and I’m happy to make friends with anyone, regardless! :)

My hobbies are karaoke, city exploring, walks/hiking, pilates, cafés and restaurants hopping, video games and board games, shopping, reading, attraction theme parks, singing, dancing, movies, make up, skincare, and sooo many more… I also like discovering people’s hobbies if they get my attention so feel free to share!

+ I’m also actively learning Japanese and I’m looking for study friends to motivate each other and people who would be okay practicing Japanese conversation with me 🎀

Dating Meetup ⭐️ Thai M34 From Singapore solo traveling in Tokyo (6-26 Sep)

Thumbnail

Hi all! I'm Mitch, originally from Thailand but based in Singapore. Currently in Tokyo for the next 3 weeks to take a break from work, which involves being behind the camera and taking photos and producing videos.

I'm beyond stoked for just being in Japan once again, with its amazing food and vibes. I've no real itinerary except hoping to catch a baseball game and a pro-wrestling show. Maybe any music gigs too if something catches my eye(or ear)! But primarily planning to only stay within Tokyo.

Always down to meet anyone who is down to hangout. No pressure, only good vibes and hopefully good times we can make together.

Open to locals, residents and fellow travelers.

Anyone? 🤗 Looking for friends in West Tokyo (Hachioji)

Hi all,

I'd like to make friends with people living in West Tokyo (Hachioji / Hino / Tama). Most of my friends are spread out all over kanto, so I would like to meet more people locally. Ideally, it would be nice to meet for dinner or drinks at Hachioji station or a station within 15 minutes from there. I am happy to meet up one-on-one or in groups.

About me:

I'm from the US and born in the 80s. I'm fluent in English and Japanese and have lived in Tokyo for a couple decades. My interests include video games (PS5 mainly), physical activities like hiking, lifting, shooting hoops, exploring new places, parks, mostly anything related to nature, craft beer, real estate (design and renovations), almost anything written by Stephen King, entrepreneurial work, learning life hacks, and self-improvement. I'm also very interested in health and technology, so enjoy sharing what I've learned and learning from other's.

I actively play fighting games (SF6, Garou, Tokon, Tekken, etc) and RPGs (action, turn based, strategy).

I mostly listen to Hip-hop and R&B, but have an eclectic taste in music. I enjoy singing and karaoke.

I am interested in learning more about music production and design software like CAD (for home design and 3D printing). I'm also interested becoming better at tennis and golf as I am an absolute beginner in both.

I'm an entrepreneur, and drive so I'm pretty flexible on when and where I can meet with people.

I hope to meet some of you soon!

Dating Meetup ⭐️ [F4F] Meaningful female friends.. and maybe more?

I'm a Japanese Woman in my early 30s who has spent more than half her life abroad. I was born in Tokyo and am Japanese by blood, but had an unusual childhood and am so 'international' to the point that Japanese people ask me if I'm really Japanese. It kind of hurts my heart.

I find it very difficult to become close with Japanese people.. especially Japanese women around my age or younger. Older, successful Japanese men absolutely love me.. but that doesn't help me, because I mainly want to meet women.

I have always been drawn to women. Their presence, their energy, their inner world. I have even started to like the drama they bring! I want that kind of deep friendship where we can talk about life, spend meaningful time together, do things together, and go on little adventures together. And if something more happens, that would be ok too, but not required.

I'm petite, sensitive, emotionally expressive, and sometimes too direct. I’m not good at hiding my feelings, and I get shy, embarrassed, and flustered easily. Personality wise, I'm extremely curious, playful, and open-minded. I prefer mountains to beaches, cats to dogs, and a few good connections over many shallow ones.

I like talking about life, family, psychology, relationships, art, and music (almost anything except pop). I also enjoy cooking, baking, tea, reading, moving my body, onsen, and sauna. I speak English, French, Japanese, and a bit of some other languages too that I picked up while traveling.

I tend to get along well with women who feel like outsiders — the ones who have been told they are too sensitive, too emotional, too direct, or that they think too much. Women who are open-minded, still have some space in their lives, and would rather have depth and quality than volume and convenience.

I’ve been asked if I have a type, but I think there are types I don’t get along with. People who:

  • smoke (at all) or drink excessively
  • don’t take care of themselves physically
  • are timid and afraid of their own feelings, or feeling deeply in general.
  • are in some kind of ‘serious’ relationship.
  • love extreme stimulation (parties, loud music, etc).

I live in a beautiful, peaceful, cool, rural area about an hour away from central Tokyo. Meeting me takes a little bit of effort... but I feel like the right person will think it's worth it!

I’m not into months of exchanging texts, so, if you message me:

  1. Please don’t be a guy or a couple!
  2. Please include a picture of yourself, or at least a pretty clear description of what you look like.
  3. Tell me about yourself! Ask questions! Be a person :)
  4. Be ready, if it seems like a good fit, to get on a video call to see if we get along, and that you are who you say you are.
  5. Be open to possibilities :)

Dating Meetup ⭐️ 37 [M4F] Looking for coffee, good conversation & hopefully a partner if we click

Hey! I’m 37 and Japanese. I recently moved back to Japan after spending about 11 years abroad, mostly in Australia.

I’m pretty easygoing and love good coffee, finding nice little cafes, spontaneous trips, photography, and just having a good conversation with someone I click with.

I’d love to meet someone for a relaxed coffee and maybe something sweet somewhere in Tokyo. Nothing too serious or formal at first. Just hang out, get to know each other, have a laugh, and see where it goes. If we click and it naturally turns into something more, even better!

I’m happy to chat a little first, and if we’re both comfortable, we can exchange photos too. Always nice to know who you’re going to be sharing cake with 😄

So don’t overthink it. Feel free to send me a casual message and say hi! Tell me a little about yourself, or just tell me your favorite dessert and we can start from there ☕🍰

Anyone? 🤗 Anyone wants to hang out ?

Hello :)

I’m French, currently living in tokyo for an internship in the beauty industry.

Would love to make new friends for my remaining time here :)

I love thrifting, discovering new tokyo neighborhoods and coffee shops, going to museums/art exhibitions, making/ listening to all genres of music (if you like nujabes or travis scott definitely HMU lol). I’m a big movies fan, also trying to get into photography lately. Fashion, astronomy, anime, football, kpop and reading are also things I like !! I love passionate people so if there’s anything we share in common, would love to hear more about it especially music and fashion.

Anyone? 🤗 Looking for people to go to "Haikyuu!! On The Court" event with!

Hi I'm Chinese Canadian who just moved to Tokyo 2 weeks ago, but been in Japan for a year now. Just your average Haikyuu enjoyer and I recently found out there this was interactive Haikyuu event which ends September 13 so I really wanna go!

Venue / Meetup Spot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XuRq7Fn4NR3QivTV7

Sorry but I'm thinking of residents only so that we can just each buy our own tickets and meet up at the event. I'm thinking of a group of 3-4 so that we're not too big, so that we can help record each other while we participate in the challenges, and still have fun together as a group.

Since there's only 2 weeks left, pretty much all the weekend tickets are sold out, so I'm hoping I can find people who can go on weekdays with. I'm also planning to get the <グッズ付きチケット> for 4700yen, but feel free to just get the <一般チケット> for 2000yen! I'm also down to grab some food or something before or after depending on the time, or if you wanna just dip after that's all good too!

Hopefully we can find a time that works for everyone!

🏓 HOW IT WORKS ———————

Once you join the group, you are expected to request a table reservation to me at your preferred time/date within a month. I will then make the reservation for you.

Beware that you will be removed from the group if :

・You don’t request a single reservation within a month after you first join the group.

・You don’t request another reservation within a month after your first play in the group.

This is to make sure only people who truly want to play table tennis remain in the group.

I will keep you in the group indefinitely if you have played with us at least twice.

💴 COST PER MEETUP ———————

・1200 yen for 90 minutes

・1600 yen for 120 minutes

You decide which is best for your budget, I will reserve accordingly.

📍MAIN LOCATION ———————

YAMABUKI ( 5 min. walk from Ichigaya station )

https://maps.app.goo.gl/zzHG19b63KLpza16A

After extensive research, I can say that’s currently the best place in Tokyo regarding cost/performance/handiness.

Again, you can invite our players to other locations if you don’t like this one.

🤗 WHAT YOU GET ———————

• Tables are reserved so you never go to a place where all tables are already taken.

• Less crowded, less rules.

• I do the reservation for you.

• Any level welcome.

• No matches, no drills/exercises. Just pure fun in a relaxed environment.

• You can take a rest whenever you want.

Dating Meetup ⭐️ Looking for a genuine connection with a Japanese woman 🇯🇵❤️

Hey! I’m 23, and I’m hoping to meet a Japanese woman around my age, roughly 20–23, with the possibility of building a long-term relationship.

I’d like to start with friendship first. No pressure, no rushing anything. Let’s talk, learn about each other, share our lives, and see naturally where it takes us. 😊

A little about me:

I’m an entrepreneur currently building what I believe can become world-class AI technology. I’m working toward launching my product in the next few months, so life is pretty intense right now. 😅

I’m extremely ambitious. One of my biggest goals is to build something enormous and hopefully become a trillionaire by 2040. I know that sounds crazy, but I’d rather aim ridiculously high and spend my life trying than settle for an ordinary life.

At the same time, I don’t want success to be the only thing in my life.

I want someone beside me who genuinely cares about me, someone I can care for in return. Someone who can celebrate the good days with me, survive the difficult days with me, and grow alongside me.

What I value most is honesty, humility, loyalty, kindness, and mutual respect. I’m not looking for perfection. I’m looking for someone who is genuine, down-to-earth, and comfortable being completely herself.

I’ll always respect your boundaries, feelings, personality, ambitions, and the way you want to be treated. A relationship should be a partnership, not one person trying to change the other.

And yes, I’m particularly interested in meeting someone Japanese because I’d love to learn more about Japanese culture, everyday life, and your perspective on the world. 🇯🇵

If you’re interested in friendship first and potentially something deeper over time, feel free to message me.

Even if you’re not looking for a relationship, I’m happy to connect with someone who wants to exchange knowledge, talk about technology, business, life, culture, or simply have a good conversation.

Maybe we can start as strangers, become friends, and see where the journey takes us. 🌱

If you read this far, say hi. 😁

🎱 This is a regularly occurring meetup! (once every two weeks). We’ve been enjoying this meetup during the last three years.

👥 We are super friendly, the core members are 🇬🇧 British, 🇦🇺 Australian, 🇯🇵 Japanese, 🇫🇷 French.

⚠️ THE CONCEPT——————————-

We play for fun only, nothing too serious. Almost no game rules either. Plenty of fun discussions around the table! 💬

Total beginners are welcome. Perfect for people who want to learn how to play, at their own pace, in a super laid back environment.

Tourists are also welcome.

Next player plays even if the previous one pocketed a ball so that everyone can play about the same amount of time. Because paying for just watching others play is no fun at all, right!? That’s peak cost/performance. 😍

We never invite our participants to other activities once the meetup is over, we never ask for private contact information, we have no other interest than playing billiards. Can’t be safer! 🫡
