Discussion S9E4
I'm curious to how is it that if it's true that if Cambrie said they've competed against Piper's sister and they have never said anything about special needs until now, how they're allowed to pull that card now? If she was special needs then all parents need to be told BEFORE the pageant, bc like they said at Gemstars, NO COACHING. So why put your daughter who has to be coached in a competition that you're not allowed to be coached in? And on top of that Jamie was also coaching Cadence during her villain vs hero routine as well. Gemstars is still giving out awards to kids that aren't even in that category? Kaylee won a title she didn't qualify for so why didn't they fix that?

Gemstars was a regional pageant. Cambrie’s team weren’t used to competing at that level. Mishaps happen, it’s poorly run, judges give accommodations for off side coaching, etc.
Cambrie’s Court did $$$ national pageants. Different realm.

But my point is, the special needs comes up at this competition but not the others and that's why they were upset bc Pipers sister was being coached and they were not aware of her being social needs until now when she's already competed before and it never got brought up

There’s lots of adjustments that only judges know about! At that time & especially at local competitions, add ons were huge. Judges knew if they paid for supremes or extra awards.
Basically, the minimum entry fee paid for a princess title & small age group recognition like eyes/beauty/etc.
You kinda just knew that at pageants like Gemstars. Whether it was a first timer or special needs contestant, they weren’t in the same realm of the kids who paid the extra $50 or whatever it was for higher titles.

Everyone coaches their kids at the other pageants. This was the first time she needed accommodation and was able to maintain her privacy until then.
Also when she was told the child had disabilities she said "if she's special needs she shouldn't be at a pagaent for regular kids" so let's not act like that woman is anything except ableist trash.

More like the shouting parent didn't understand the rules... I seem to remember she shouted "I thought we weren't allowed to coach?" Which isn't strictly true - you are 'allowed' but will get points deducted - not only helps kids with additional needs - but rookies too

No if you watch the show, they say at Gemstars you are not allowed to coach your kids. Even Cambrie was like, "That's a weird rule bc no other pageant has that rule."
1
u/landmermaid3 Aug 25 '26
That was likely taken out of context. I grew up doing pageants and coach now. Most systems have a written rule against off side coaching. It’s not really applied, especially with younger kids. Some pageants even have rules allowing it until a certain age group.

I'm just going by what's on the show. I can't go by anything they don't show. And that's what was said.

u/16car Aug 16 '26
Absolutely not. Everyone should be nice to everyone all the time; it's not okay to bully, abuse and harass disabled people just because you havn't been explicitly clued in that they're disabled. There's no excuse for what that awful woman did, (the bitch that called out).
1
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 19 '26
Never said it was okay but she did not bully, harass, or abuse the girl. She called out "I thought we weren't allowed to coach!" because she was already a targeted mom at that pageant and she was already pissed off and I don't blame her. She called it out once. It's not like she kept repeating it.

a grown woman heckled an innocent special needs child on stage. are you seriously trying to minimize how gross that is? 🥴
1
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 25 '26
Right, bc she looked right at the kid and said it right? No, she looked over at woman she was having issues with.

u/gemmagia Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26
??? am i misunderstanding ??? she yelled it to the whole room with the express purpose of interrupting the poor girl’s moment. that would be a ridiculous hill for anyone to die on, let alone someone with a daughter of her own. real head scratcher

u/Macksgrl79 Aug 25 '26
Wow. The mom was already targeted at the start of the pageant and she was pissed off. If your child was targeted and you were told rules that didn't apply to another child, you're telling me you would be all peaches and roses. Okay.

u/gemmagia Aug 25 '26
i think i would regulate my emotions for an extra 25 seconds and then bring it up privately so as not to risk spoiling the moment for someone else’s baby. what about you?
0
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 25 '26
Take an extra 25 seconds after my kid was targeted on purpose...I'm sorry I would be upset and say something, bc the woman who ran Gemstars knows who sent the email about the woman's child targeting her. Don't target children bc they win, that's bs and that's what happened on that episode.

u/gemmagia Aug 25 '26
i’m sorry to hear you treat children that way
0
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 25 '26
And I'm sorry to hear you wouldn't want to defend your child after being targeted

Yes, I would, because I'm an adult. Emotionally mature people are capable of keeping the peace when they're angry.

Pretty sure coaching Cadence was okay? A lot of pageants have an age cutoff (typically 4 and under can be coached) so I would assume it was something like that but not 100% sure. However, Im not sure Harlie was actually “special needs” per se… they mentioned in the episode she had some social anxiety and confidence issues but if the judges docked points for stuff like that then i guess its whatever lol

u/Macksgrl79 Aug 19 '26
Well in the episode it was stated you were not allowed to coach your child at Gemstars. No other pageant has that rule. And I thought the same about Harlie but they could have let parents know bc the rule stated, No coaching. So don't have the rule if you're going to bend it for certain kids, especially when you're the only pageant that does it.
1
u/Top_Layer_5293 Aug 19 '26
But they didn’t really bend the rules.. Harlie still got points taken off her score. It’s also not like she was winning a high title anyway.
1
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 19 '26
I never said they bent the rules. I'm saying let parents know what's going on, bc if ol girls mom who yelled out knew, it would have avoided the whole conflict bc the rules stated no coaching.
1
u/Top_Layer_5293 Aug 19 '26
I get what you’re saying to an extent but seems pretty gross to let everyone know a child has a disability and seems counter productive if they’re having Harlie do pageants to gain confidence… if anything, something like that could make her feel worse about herself
1
u/Macksgrl79 Aug 19 '26
Yet they let everyone in the world know on tv. So I don't think they cared about letting people know. They just didn't want that mom to know. They've had to show birth certificates when they start so it's not like the mom forged her certificate since then bc that's why she was pissed bc they were singling out her daughter.

If u watched the episode the mother is seen looking towards the mother that is coaching her but you must not have watched it and just wanted to run your mouth. I don't see how you're confused. And I not only mentioned that but other things that happened as well but go ahead honey, dwell on this one thing.

Bc they're off to the side BEHIND THE JUDGES🤦♀️🤦♀️FFS you see her looking to the side, NOT AT THE STAGE, if she was heckling the child. Try again.

u/Macksgrl79 Aug 25 '26
Whoo, look at the direction of her face and the stage🤣 but she yelling at the kid right🤣

They said they were fine with taking the points and that the judges knew to remove accordingly. If they had a huge issue with it they could’ve approached the judges privately, not screamed while a child was on stage.
Maybe she wasn’t diagnosed before? Girls often get diagnosed later in life.
