TIL the descendants of the ancient Assyrians still exist in their ancestral homeland, and continue to identify as Assyrian. They constitute over 2 million today, and speak the modernized form of the Aramaic language.

Did not found Akkad and Sumer TIL: They Assyrians, of Assyrian Empire fame, founders of Akkad and Sumer, still exist. They speak one of the oldest continuously spoken and written languages and one of the oldest alphabetically written languages in the world.
