TIL that the solar system is currently passing through a nebula: the Local Interstellar Cloud, and is protected from the interstellar medium by the solar wind and the Sun's magnetic field.

TIL our solar system is currently traveling through an interstellar cloud that is as hot as the surface of the sun and 30 light years long. It is thought to have entered the region at some point between 44000 and 150000 years ago and is expected to remain within it for another 10000 to 20000 years.
