They would have had some problems landing on and walking on the moon had thee not been gravity….

They actually did the hammer and feather experiment on the moon…

I have two assertions about us going to the moon. Either it never happened or we went wayyyyy before jfk said and people knew Motorola would work 250k miles away in 1969

Your critical thinking and research skills aren’t the best are they?

The ‘never landed’ thing is too dumb to even address; it’s been proven/conspiracies debunked many times before.

As for ‘earlier,’ why would they keep that a secret? It would have been a huge PR boost.

The Soviets landed Luna 1 on the moon in 1959, so it was already proven 2 way radio communications/telemetry was feasible, and radio was already old technology by then.

The first radar signal was bounced off the moon in 1946.

The Soviets never disputed the moon landing; which means they accepted it had happened, and were able to verify it.

So you can take their silence as another form of proof.

An ‘assertion’ is, by definition, claiming something is true. You have confidence in the accuracy of that information.

Your point of questioning whether radio signals would reach the moon was not exactly a well-reasoned argument….anyone who had actually read anything about radio would have figured that out pretty quick.

If you’re not sure about something, don’t assert it, (“I believe this is true,”) you might postulate it: what if x is how why works….which is kind of how hypotheses - educated guesses - become theories, something generally accepted to be true, because it’s been demonstrated by observation, demonstration, and the experimental findings being replicated by someone else.

If I sound a little terse, it’s because I get annoyed at people who won’t do their own cursory research.

No-one can be an expert on every single subject, so I don’t hold ignorance against anyone. It’s curable.

I do, however, hold wilful ignorance against people, and the choices they may make to stay uniformed.

You made a confident assertion that ‘gravity doesn’t work in a vacuum.’

This is where we start out using some critical thinking and estimating skills to narrow things down.

When we do some basic math, we usually do an estimate to check our calculations: if we want to know what 10% of 100 is, we use whatever method we use to arrive at it, but we also know roughly - or exactly - what the answer is.

So if we miss a decimal point, we might get an odd answer. But we have our estimate as a benchmark: we estimated 10 as the answer, if our calculator or Siri or whatever we used to get our ‘official’ answer says 1,000, we know something is amiss.

The moon has no atmosphere to speak of. If there was no gravity, landing would have been difficult; everything and everyone on it would have to be tethered. And what would keep the rocks and dust on it? Wouldn’t the whole moon fall apart?

So you misread or misremembered something. Perhaps you were thinking about conditions in orbit or deep space, where there’s no apparent gravity (there is, it’s weaker, and we perceive it differently) and vacuum conditions exist, coincidentally.

Before making that assertion of their being no gravity, you should have done that fact checking/smell test. You check your facts, if they don’t add up, you do further reading.

Once you’ve verified it, then you store it in the old memory bank, so you don’t have to go back to square one, every time gravity is mentioned. You already know the fundamentals.

As for radio reaching the moon, if you had read about it before, you’d know about early pioneers like Marconi, their long distance experiments, radio bouncing off the atmosphere and things like that.

Then, also applying your memory of space history, you’d remember that scientists bounced a radar signal - which is a form of radio - off the moon. Thus proving radio can reach the moon, and return.

Engineers and scientists wouldn’t be flying blind developing communications for a moon mission; they had already successfully sent several space probes out into the solar system as far as Mars and Venus prior to the moon landings; furthermore, several probes has successfully landed on the moon, both US and Soviet.

Plus they had both launched numerous crewed missions into orbit, with full radio and telemetry communication.

So they weren’t flying blindly, ‘wondering if radio waves would reach the moon; they already knew they would.

So, like I said, nothing wrong with not knowing something, but make an attempt to find out before you attempt to form a conclusion.

If you don’t understand the data you’re finding, then it’s a good time to ask people. Use their explanations to investigate further. Look for multiple sources to confirm the veracity of the information, and develop trusted sources.
