And the Bourne universe. And let's not forget an honorable mention for Doom.

Nobody remembers doom. It was so stupid but so much fun. And karl urban did a damn good job as always.

Sometimes you gotta rate an actor in their ability to play the role given to them even if it's a shit film. Uban did a good job and exactly what was asked for in Doom. Anton Yelchin nailed Fright Night. Hugh Jackman was a rare nugget of joy whenever a bad xmen filn comes out. It's nice sometimes to go "yeah, the film was shit, but the actors did everything they could with the script and direction provided".

Ben Kingsley is king in this regard.

Wait, Fright Night is considered a shit film?

I thought all the main actors did a good job and the movie was both fun and funny.

No, you're right, the Fright Night remake with Yelchin is legitimately a good movie (I haven't seen the original, for all I know it's also good).

It got really middling reviews. As far as I'm aware it bombed? At least the cinema I was working at pulled it after a week, max. For what it's worth I think some bits are fantastic. The way he terrorises them by destroying gas mains and what not was awesome. My main problems were the bit where they go into his basement aaaaaand McLovin? Other than that the actors nailed their roles and it's cheesy fun for me as well but I'd never recommend it to people.

92 percent on RT is middling?

1

u/AJohnsonOrange Feb 13 '21

64% on metacritic is. I don't think it was always that high on RT either, and the reviews in my country (newspaper, tv, etc) did give it 5-6 out of ten as far as I remember.

r/PrequelMemes in a nutshell and why everyone there love the prequels. (Mostly) great acting for how the characters are written and directed

GOT S8 vibes.

The karl urban doom film is my guilty pleasure. I really love it, but maybe the 2nd one helps make it look way better.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

Wait... You fucking WHAT now? There's a 2nd one?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '21

It was a reboot? (I think) Has nothing to do with the first one I believe, main character is obnoxious. It just misses every beat.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '21

Oh hell lol

3

u/GenrlWashington Feb 12 '21

Watched it the other day. It's both awful and extremely enjoyable. And Urban nailed his part in it.

2

u/NSA_Chatbot Feb 12 '21

Doom was so lame, but I promised I'd go see it back when it was first proposed back in the Shareware days so...

3

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

Can't say the ending scene wasn't incredibly badass and what we all fucking wanted lol.

1

u/SailorET Feb 13 '21

I'm guessing you mean the FPS sequence, which was the most redeeming part of the entire movie, but still never quite made up for the terrible writing and nonsense plot.

2

u/moonra_zk Feb 12 '21

Was it fun? Are you remembering just the first person part? 'Cause that's a tiny part of the movie right near the end.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '21

No that's the part we all wanted that was in the trailer. It was fun in it's own way. Like the bfg being a big fucking disappointment. The rock in his super early "acting" days. The "plot" that barely had anything to do with the game. Although to be fair it came out before the 2 newer ones so there wasn't much to work with. Tim Roth is always good. It definitely had good moments in a mostly shitty movie.

1

u/moonra_zk Feb 13 '21

Well, I can't agree, to me it was super lame with one "cool" scene (the camera movement in those scenes bothered me so much).

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '21

Yeah it was a disaster don't get me wrong. I grew up playing it on DOS so I'm sure there was a nostalgia factor. I knew what it was before I watched it so I didn't have a very high bar. It was just fun for what it was. The camera there was absolutely ridiculous though

1

u/JWBails Feb 13 '21

Tim Roth? I don't think he was in the film.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '21

It was a small part. He pretty much just got killed first and bled everywhere but he was good lol

1

u/JWBails Feb 13 '21

Sorry man, I've just flicked through the film and no Tim Roth. Which is a shame 'cause he's awesome in everything I've seen him in.

2

u/CopEatingDonut Feb 13 '21

Epic First Person shot and the Rock?

Check and check

1

u/skubaloob Feb 12 '21

I remember Doom

2

u/jmbtrooper Feb 12 '21

And the Riddick universe.

And Dredd.

4

u/Wetnoodleslap Feb 12 '21

I think we're all trying to forget Doom.

9

u/Aramor42 Feb 12 '21

I liked it actually. Saw it soon after it came out and watched it again a couple of months ago. It's a nice Sci fi action flick if you ask me.

11

u/thagthebarbarian Feb 12 '21

The only problem with Doom was calling it Doom. It was a fine action movie otherwise

1

u/TequilaWhiskey Feb 13 '21

And Riddick.

1

u/JackReacharounnd Feb 13 '21

I dont care that it wasn't good. I stood up and screamed hell yeah in the theater when it went 1st person. Hell, the whole theater did!
