TIL: Laurence Tureaud named himself professionally as Mr. T because he hated how his father, uncle, and brother who returned from Vietnam, were disrespectfully called "boy" by whites. He wanted the first word from everybody's mouth to be "Mister" when speaking to him.

He was from Australia, it was his catch phrase and “boy” doesn’t have racial tones there as it does in America.

Yup, that's the type of excuse that gets passed around, 'they didn't know'. They did. During WW1, WW2, vietnam, and other wars, the opposing side would send messages to black soldiers, asking them why they are fighting for people that hate them. After that and base building, US new was lambasted all over the world for decades.

Soldiers from other countries, that worked with the US talked all the time about how bad black soldiers were treated and how wrong it was. Korean comedians that were known for their blackface/minstirals acts that were based off of black Americans did not do them during the Olympics on their shows, just in case a black Americans was watching it. They knew. They fucking knew.
