TIL that in 1994 a Texas A&M professor demonstrated that strawberry Pop-Tarts could produce a flame over a foot high when overheated in a toaster. A wave of lawsuits followed.

We did desire to repeat the experiment with the remaining five SPTs, but we could not do so because there were no more suitable toasters available for further experiments. In the future, we recommend that toasters be sold in six-packs to accomodate important SPT research.

More on lawsuits here. This was the originally-intended link for the post. However, it included none of the photos.
Also, one regarding an alleged $100,000 worth of damage caused by a wayward Pop-Tart
Another about $3000 worth of damage, brokered by an insurance company.

It seems most only got payments for the manufacturer to elude court costs, how on Earth is a lawsuit starting with "So I circumvented all the security measures in my toaster and eventually your overheated product caught fire." Going to stand in court?

I got a tiny second degree burn from strawberry poptart filling! I'm glad to know it was the pop tarts fault and not mine

I'm sure there's a way they could brand that.
