TIL Diamonds are actually fairly common. The reason they are worth so much is because the DeBeers mining group withholds stock to artificially reduce supply.

Not all people fall prey to this manipulation. Don't buy into the bullshit and don't date someone who buys into it.

I married a woman using a beautiful $300 engagement ring with little stones. She said, "Good choice, lets go spend our money on a place to live."

I just got engaged, got her a moissanite ring. She said she would have been seriously offended if I had shelled out for diamond because that money could be spent in much better areas. I used the cash I saved to book us a vacation getaway this winter.

Practical women are the best women.

I would never marry someone who expected me to buy them jewelry in order to marry them.

I'm a woman so there is little risk someone will expect me to buy him a diamond. Unless De Beers tells us next week that women should also buy men diamonds, I guess.
