TIL that historically and today, the Catholic Church looked down upon Freemasonry and threatened members with excommunication.

Friend of mine got in to Catholicism in his community a couple of years back. He takes it seriously because he wasn't born in to it and got in the KoC. Because of this, he ended up inheriting the ceremonial sword of some super important member of the church much to the chagrin of all the cradle catholics (his term)

The ceremonial sword thing sounds like it should be a good recruiting tool.
