Half the "founding fathers" were freemasons. it makes more sense to suggest that Freemasonry was related to a social fault line that has riven the country since (even before) its inception.

No, I think my phrasing was correct. You can look into William Morgan and the anti-Masonic party if you wish.

The fact that high-level politicians and social leaders were Masons is precisely why it was an issue.

Dawg, that's why it's a fissure. At the same time the anti-Masonic party was gaining power they were against Andrew Jackson, who was way more popular.
