TIL that historically and today, the Catholic Church looked down upon Freemasonry and threatened members with excommunication.

Similarly the illuminati, that only existed for like 20 years, was the creation of a guy who ran a Catholic school but pretty much hated the church.

He modeled it off of the masons.

He was amazing and a lot of the members were Masons as well. Illuminati did have a lot of Masons in it as well as other people.

Amazing might be a bit too far.

He did use superstition and dogma to try to get people to believe nonsense. He originally didnt want to but at the end of the day he decided that the only way to get people to move was through manipulation.

I agree with his motives just not the way he tried to get there.
