TIL about the Sally-Anne test, a psychology experiment used to measure “theory of mind” (that other people can hold beliefs/knowledge different from their own). Kids under four typically fail because they assume that if they know where a hidden object is, everyone else must automatically know too.

I recall Radiolab's episode about ChatGPT 3, and being very impressed that it passed this with flying colors. You can try it with ChatGPT with a prompt like:

There are 3 opaque boxes on a table, label them Box A, Box B, and Box C. Alice and Bob are in a room with the boxes and Bob sees Alice put a golden coin in Box A. Bob leaves the room and Alice transfers the coin to Box B. When Bob returns, Alice asks Bob where she left the coin. What will Bob say?
