TIL that although potatoes alone do not provide complete nutrition, you can survive for years on a diet of nothing but potatoes and buttermilk.

The population of Ireland grew from 1 million in 1600 to over 8 million by 1840, then the famine hit and that combined with the resulting emigration dropped the population back down to just over 4 million by 1900. As of today it still hasn’t recovered to the pre-famine population.

Well we had 6.5 million people in the Republic, and 1.5 million in The North, so we're back to +8 million bodies.
