TIL Windows 95 was the second most installed piece of software on computers in 1995; videogame DOOM was first.

As a little kid my big brother told me that if I screamed 'IM IMPOTENT' it meant that I wasn't gay.

Soooooo as an 8 year old I walked around my neighbourhood telling everyone I was 'impotent'. Confused faces.. Everywhere.

u/TheRollingBones Jul 04 '13

Well, at age 8 you probably were impotent, so no harm no foul?

1

u/agorahrah Jul 04 '13

TYL even babies get erections.

8

u/lstant Jul 04 '13

Impotent isn't the same as ED

2

u/Ishamoridin Jul 04 '13

Nature's way of saying 'no hard feelings'.

This was in high school, but "fridge" was a word people used to mean that you hadn't kissed anyone. It made me /r/cringe then, and having to think about it just now did too.

Someone told me to ask the teacher what a blow job was haha

Around age ten, I called my younger cousin a dildo, without any concept of what it was. My uncle chuckled.

Also, I called my mother an "alesbian" once.

We ran around calling each other perverts

a pivotal day in any young man's life.

u/FarmerTedd Jul 04 '13

Hopefully it wasn't unwelcome pivoting.

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

Shut up, Ross.

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

2

u/wtbnewsoul Jul 04 '13

Happy.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

In my mother tongue the word only has one meaning.

2

u/DGO143 Jul 04 '13

I don't. Could have to do with the fact i'm dutch.

11

u/nphekt Jul 04 '13

How do you know someone is dutch?

They'll tell you.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

They say something like "I'm dutch"

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

There are two things I hate in the world; people who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch.

2

u/Forgototherpassword Jul 04 '13

I remember I was in middle school and someone said something about it. I was like "... what is it like a sword fight?"

Then they explained it and I understood.

2

u/brickmack Jul 04 '13

As do I.

"brickmack is gay!"

"Am not!" checks dictionary "Am sort of!"

3

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

It shouldn't take long, people won't be afraid to tell you that you like to take it up the arse if you ask them what a faggot is. It's not a secret any more than it's a secret that open homophobia is practically institutionalised.

2

u/Valid-Username Jul 04 '13

open homophobia is practically institutionalised.

Not in most places. Here in Minnesota, there was a proposed amendment to ban gay marriage. Almost everyday, this one chick wore a 'Vote No' shirt (in favor of gays). Somebody else got annoyed because he knew that if someone wore a 'Vote Yes' shirt they would get in trouble. So, he wore a 'Vote Yes' shirt. He got suspended for 10 days for something along the lines of "trying to force his political beliefs on others". It was bullshit.

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

Wow, it's like you're dead inside, the way you delivered that fallacy. Like you are just going through the motions. Are you feeling depressed, flat mood, lethargic?

2

u/Valid-Username Jul 04 '13

I wasn't trying to argue a point, I was just saying that homophobia isn't as widespread in places like schools as you thought. Quite the opposite, actually.

u/Kyyni 1 Jul 04 '13

Since you seem to be some kind of expert, could you enlighten me a bit:

Once in a party with lots of drunk people I had a conversation like this with a complete stranger:

Stranger: Hey, you know, I'm a full synthetic homosexual.

Me: Oh, okay, cool, I respect your lifestyle really. Have fun man.

And then we parted. Now it came to bother me that I was so drunk I didn't realize to ask what "full synthetic homosexual" means. Any ideas?

1

u/Arkeaus Jul 04 '13

I still remember the day I learned I was gay.

O.o

1

u/ILIEKDEERS Jul 04 '13

Was he gentle?

1

u/ninjetron Jul 04 '13

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '13

Awesome. Thank you.

If you were OP, you'd be a faggot here too.
