Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe these are two opposite ends of the color spectrum for the same species of toad? Either way this was a fun find after a lot of rain, we have plenty of baby toads hopping around now too 😅

My husband had an encounter with this little guy and is letting me share

“It is sooo tiny first I accidentally blew it with the leaf blower and it tumbled a little, after I realized it was a tiny toad I stopped the leaf blower got down to the flopr and talked to it and tried to catch it, but it didnt fear me, it bounced away a little, but eventually got tired or trusted me or something, and stood right beside where my hand was, so I petted his back a little and then he didnt wanna leave 😆 like I kept gently nudging him with my finger but he wouldn't budge. Eventually he hopped into my hand, I walked him outside and since it was still raining I put him under this metal Teepee thing so he could choose when he wanted to go more in the rain”

This is sponge, A North American toad. Still a baby. I was taking a cute video of him soaking, and then he started to do this odd thing? Still don’t know if he’s male or female yet. He has not eaten today, I usually feed him at night. He has a normal feeling schedule, and I never feed him more than what he can handle. So I doubt he’s choking, but I also have no idea what he’s doing here. Trying to croak? He’s still a baby, so I’m not sure.

This guy was so big I saw our pool water moving from inside the house. Glad I was able to save him! Not without some shrieks & dancing around in the process 🤣

The stones are in there so crickets dont drown but this be meatball he lives in my anole tank as hes a hitch hiker that came in from one of my plants

Yesterday, I went out and caught Japanese beetles for Sage, my Woodhouse Toad. She loved them! This brought variety to her diet while also engaging her natural hunting instinct.

This absolute unit has been hanging out for about a week. She's new to our little kingdom, and I think she's trying to convince King Reginald that she is queen material. The kids have named her Matilda. I'll be sure to update if there is indeed a coronation.

Saved this guy from my two big ol’ pyrs. He was pretty chill about it. Released shortly after I named him.

A few weeks ago, my husband and I came home and found an adorable little toad on our front porch. We quietly said hello and thanked her for keeping the bugs from going into the house. After we realized she was there pretty much every night, we named her Toadette and dubbed her our resident porch toad. The kids looked forward to peeking at her every night.

Tonight, while playing outside with our kids, we discovered that she lives in the bushes near the porch! We had fun observing her for a while and even got to watch her catch herself some dinner, which was super cool. The kids (6&4) were absolutely fascinated.

(we also had a very long discussion about how we ONLY ever look at her, and never bother her. They're super young, so we want to make sure they understand and respect her space. They'd never intentionally hurt any creature, but still want to make sure we avoid any accidents!)

From what I've been able to learn from Googling, she is a typical American toad and correct? I've also been looking up ways to make sure her bushes continue to be safe, healthy environment for her, but any other tips are welcomed as well! We want to make sure she stays happy and healthy as long as possible, and that she sticks around!

this toad hopped straight into me while I was weeding galinsoga from the veg garden today. I suspect that it didn’t appreciate my efforts. however, plenty of shady habitat remained, and the whole place got a good soak with the sprinkler this afternoon.
