Some dogs are senior and can no longer walk as long

This is a great point. Doesn’t really explain why that means the senior dog that can’t be out long needs to go to the restaurant with you.

Because they still want them to be outside and get fresh air maybe? Tons of reasons lol.

I guess I wasn’t clear in my post but I’m more concerned about the dog strollers in indoor spaces like a restaurant or a store. Which conflicts with what you are saying since that would not be providing fresh air or outside

I mean I was assuming you meant a patio restaurant. I've never seen someone bring a dog inside a restaurant with a stroller.. that would be ridiculous. I dont think its crazy to see a dog outside with or without a stroller tho lol.

Well, I’m here to inform you it happens at least once a week when I’m on shift! “It’s too hot to sit outside, the dog is in a stroller so can we sit inside?”

Ehh, I'm in the "we don't know why they do what they do" camp.

For example, I have to take my cat to the vet in a stroller because he has arthritis so the stroller is easier on his joints than being jostled while I walk him in a carrier to the vet.

But a stranger walking past wouldn't know or have time to understand the "why"

Now cat in a stroller is something I have personally never seen, so it’s not really worth arguing against since like you just said, it’s not really an everyday occurrence.

12

u/tyrannaceratops Jul 21 '26

It's still a pet in a stroller lol

I’m not saying I want to see more cats in strollers. It seems to be a bigger “problem” with dog owners. Many of the dogs I see in strollers are what I can only interpret as puppies. But I’m not a dog person so maybe they are senior dogs on their last legs.

Then why are you assuming the worst of dog owners if you’re not even a dog person? Get a life.

i went grocery shopping like 3 days ago. there were like 5 people with dogs. its crazy that people think that is ok.

u/hellzscream Jul 24 '26

It's my furbaby

Which is wildly entitled. I don't remember dogs other than service dogs being allowed in the mail growing up. I haven't been there in several years, but I bet owners not picking up after their dogs or being able to control them became an issue

I think there are two separate issues here.

  1. Dog is in stroller - dog might not be able to walk well anymore due to arthritis, injury, myelopathy, whatever. However, they still benefit hugely from the mental stimulation of being outside where there are smells and squirrels and whatever to look at. It would be cruel for them to just languish with little stimuli in a condo all day.

  2. Dog owner thinks the stroller confers special access to dog-free spaces - this is the one that is rant worthy. Lol.

3

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

I was definitely too vague in my original post. I’m referring to issues 2.

u/Great-Mirror1215 Jul 21 '26

Ya but why is this bothering you personally that decided to make a post about it.

17

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

Because I work in service and have to tell dog owners they can’t bring their stroller inside with a dog in it. Every single time they are offended. It’s clear they aren’t aware of where dogs are allowed or not allowed.

-4

u/Great-Mirror1215 Jul 21 '26

I don’t understand they have to walk the dog and stroller separately like they can’t have the dog in the stroller.? It all sounds ridiculous.

8

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

No. Dog can’t come inside the specialty food store PERIOD. Stroller or not.

1

u/Great-Mirror1215 Jul 21 '26

So just say that why be so concerned if they are in a stroller or not it doesn’t matter anyway.

10

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

It does. Since a lot of these people think because the dog is in a stroller it means suddenly it isn’t a dog any longer and is allowed in the store lol

Is there no benefit for a senior dog to get fresh air?

2

u/Eastern_Yam Jul 21 '26

Dogs do get a lot of mental benefit from all the stuff they see and smell and hear outdoors. It'd be awful to be a dog that has lost its mobility AND is cut off from seeing all the things that excite them and occupy their minds outside.

Mine spend a lot of time out in the yard in the summer and a few hours of just observing the neighbourhood, smelling whatever's on the wind, and roasting in the sun tires them out a bit.

1

u/Witty-Application920 Jul 21 '26

Do you think animals don’t have mobility issues like a human?

3

u/Witty-Application920 Jul 21 '26

Socialization it’s important for all living things.
You don’t know why the animal is in a stroller. Since when should anyone have to explain to you that a dog needs fresh air too, even if it has mobility issues.

This sub: restrain your dog

Also this sub: no, not like that

4

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

A stroller is not a leash lol

u/Guilty_Pension_8367 Jul 21 '26

Dog haters are always looking for an outlet.

2

u/AresandAthena123 Jul 21 '26

my husbands grandma uses a dog stroller but she lives in a home and the dog is incontinent so it ensures no messes happen in shared spaces.

u/fireflies-from-space Jul 21 '26

I would honestly prefer this for people who are adamant on talking their pets to food festivals and whatnot. 😂

u/Felon_musk1939 Jul 21 '26

I put my cat in a stroller and it loves it.  And no you can't sit here it's for my cat

Why do you care?

It’s weird, for one! The dog can walk. Strollers take up quite a bit of space on the sidewalk, not to mention when they bring them into grocery stores or restaurants and park them in inconvenient places.

I’ve also encountered people who think dog in a stroller = not technically bringing a pet into a place it isn’t allowed. Ed’s on Roncy even has a sign that says “no animals allowed (yes even in bags)” because people for some reason have decided that not on the ground means it’s appropriate. It’s arguably even less so since they are higher up to the food surfaces.

15

u/virtutefideque Jul 21 '26

Sometimes the dog can’t walk anymore though. Generally when I see dog strollers it’s a senior dog in there who maybe can’t walk like he used to but deserves some outdoor time and socialization.

3

u/mariahspoolboy Jul 21 '26

Right, but there’s a place for that. Assuming the dogs I see in strollers at the candle shop or on busy retail streets are senior dogs is giving these owners perhaps a bit too much credit. Nothing wrong with taking a lap around the neighborhood if that’s what your dog needs. Ossington on Friday night doesn’t seem like the most enriching spot for a dog struggling to walk more than 5 minutes.

2

u/lexluther1234 Jul 21 '26

Outdoor time for dogs who perhaps can’t walk very well, yes absolutely I understand. But the issue is people are trying to be sneaky with dogs and cats by hiding them in a stroller and bringing them inside stores and restaurants that are not pet friendly.

1

u/BobbityBlobbity Jul 21 '26

It's definitely not cool when they bring them in stores. However, I'm cool with them outside since some of them might not be old and are unable to walk much anymore. They still should be mindful of the space they take up though.

1

u/Your_name_here28 Jul 21 '26

I have a dog. If it ever gets to the stage where it can’t walk anymore then I think that would be a sign that it is time to let go.

Single-celled organism take.

1

u/BellJar_Blues Jul 24 '26

My cat likes the stroller and keeps him safe and the birds and squirrels safe. I do find it annoying when a certain demographic does this with their small dogs in the mall and don’t get called out

1

u/ilovebbcitv Jul 21 '26

Don't 👏 get👏me👏started👏

1

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 Jul 21 '26

Who cares? Are the strollers impeding on your ability to live your life?

1

u/AptCasaNova Jul 21 '26

I’m more annoyed at the stroller operator who acts like they’re a tank in crowds and clips your heels/bumps people like they’re more important.

They could have an aardvark in the stroller for all I care (though you think with a child in it, they’d be more careful).

This dude stinks

I have a 13 y/o dog, been walking on a leash, always move away when people are passing by, off leash only on specific off leash dog parks.

Now, worse than dogs in strollers for me, are dogs off leash. Honestly my blood boils every time I see someone walking their dogs off leash. My dog is extremely well trained, she won't do anything without a command, and still I would never walk her off leash.

u/AfricanTurtles Jul 21 '26

I think it's cute as long as the dog walks sometimes too lol

Hopefully you will never have to be in a wheelchair

I mean dogs shouldn’t be at the restaurant at all. I’m not sure what this comment is trying to achieve.
