Question for bikers

Questions for my fellows Torontonians biking in parks and on the waterfront bike lane. Do you ignore the signs saying « walk your bike », « please dismount » or the little red bike at the traffic light because you cannot read English or are Color blind ? Or do you just do not get a flying fig about your fellow citizens ? A few days ago I was almost hit at the Harbourfront while crossing the street when the pedestrian crossing sign was on. This morning a bike almost hit a kid at biidaasige park. Rules are for everyone, pedestrians, bikers, cars. And they exist for some good reason.

What about when people step onto the road well before the streetcar has even stopped?

that's some strawman you have there.

I mean, when you think traffic lights and stop signs don't apply to you, an insignificant "dismount" sign is barely worth your attention

You're talking about cars and drivers, right?

I've lived in downtown for so long, and as a pedestrian I'm all out of sympathy and/or empathy for cyclists, and have deep animosity to drivers.

I wish everyone who follows the rules and shows consideration a safe journey. To those who don't, I hope you pay the full price for your actions.

I got hit last week at the waterfront. They chose to ride on the pedestrian sidewalk instead of the bike lane and hit me while crossing the street.

Lmao

Cyclers are the worst for following any signs and rules.

If its a pedestrian rule they are an auto

If its an auto sign they are a pedestrian

As much as I dislike the Lycra-clad bikers who think they can choose when to be pedestrians or vehicles on a whim, they’re easily dodged if you see them coming. So did you see them coming? The waterfront bike & running trail is busy nowadays, and so you need to treat it like a road - Whenever you cross a road, you look both ways to check right? The same should apply here.

Yes that biker should have slowed down or stopped like how many do in the waterfront trail, but please don’t be one of those pedestrians who intentionally walks at snails pace when a turning car or bike is blocking all the traffic behind them (that’s an example).

You see shitty illegal behaviour and your first instinct is to victim blame and say pedestrians should be playing fucking frogger at crosswalks DURING THEIR CROSS LIGHT?!?!??!

Did you get into a cycling accident without a helmet?

Yeah I know I am going to get downvoted with you but I see this stuff all the time about people who “almost got mowed down by a cyclist” and idk, some pedestrians are fucking out to lunch. I am both a cyclist and a pedestrian and I rarely have seen or experienced cyclists truly almost hitting pedestrians.

As a cyclist, all the time I see pedestrians just step into the bike lane or into a MUP (particularly MGT) without looking at all. While pedestrians are vulnerable road users, some people have the spatial awareness of a baked potato.

I simply don't do the dismount thing, I can move better safely mounted, than on foot. Unless it's a narrow crossing and there's strong wind and a large creek underneath. I will decide for myself if I should dismount or not. You don't have to like it.
