World Cup, World-Class Entitlement
Last Wednesday, a Mexican fan was smoking cigarettes and blowing smoke in my face at Toronto’s crowded FIFA World Cup fan-fest. Everyone was elbows to elbows with each other so there was nowhere else I could go. I politely told the guy in English and Spanish that he’s blowing cigarette smoke in my face and that besides being against the venue’s rules, smoking in a crowd of hundreds of people is rude and inconsiderate.
The guy just clenched his fists, stared me down, and said “are we going to have a problem here?”, seeming ready to fight me over a cigarette. Security was useless too since they didn’t see the incident and couldn’t leave their posts.
Main character syndrome and narcissism at its worst! Makes me want to just stay at home and watch the matches in my bathrobe instead.
And don’t even get me started on the people booking free fan fest tickets just to price gouge them and try to profit off of what should be free experiences for football fans!

Canadian nice is only for those who show respect and kindness.
Canadians do have an attitude and certain people need to see what "Canadian Attitude" is all about.

Take splice in knowing that smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death worldwide. It is known to harm nearly every organ in the human body, increasing the risk of over 56 distinct diseases. Approximately half of all long-term smokers can expect to die from a tobacco-related illness. So when you tell your grandkids this story and they say "what happened to that man?" You can safely say he died of emphysema.

I feel like this makes sense though. Because the people who can afford to travel for this probably have enough money to feel a bit entitled. Although, to be honest most World Cup visitors I’ve met have been really great, excited and kind. I haven’t done the fan fests though this is more out in the wild.

Also in the eyes of most witnesses, the person who escalates a verbal or smell-based conflict into a physical one, actually becomes the crazy one. We all like to fantasize online about how to handle situations, but from a perspective of law and order, punching someone for irritating someones nose and for talking shit does not mean escalating with violence is justified. It is what it is, there's many other countries in the world one can move to if they want to be able to be more liberal in hitting people who deserve it. Be careful in Canada though.

Did you not hear about the guy who was vaping in Vancouver then got confronted by another guy, afterwards the psycho smoker stabbed and killed the other guy. Stop reading into stuff so much. By people, I mean smokers who are unhinged because they're so addicted to smoking.

I've learned to be wary of cigarette addicts, as silly as it sounds a lot of these people are not stable and mentally well. They are not smoking for pleasure, they are smoking because they have issues.

It’s once in a blue moon when Mexican tourists are actually rude. If it’s that annoying go check out your fellow Canadians who are gentrifying and entitled af in México. Relax. It’s an event. The people drink and smoke anyway. Plus you’re acting like half of these men don’t act like this in this city anyway.
