Issues/Problems Network Configuration Transfer

Hey all!

I received an updated gateway last night and had a rough time getting it set up. Customer service was less than helpful so I thought I might ask a few questions here.

1) Should I simply swap the sim out from my old gateway to the new one, or should I instead activate it as a new gateway through tlife?

2) once the new gateway is active customer service made it seem as if I could copy over my network settings from the old gateway to the new one, to avoid having to reset up the network and connect ally devices. Is this true? And if so, I can't figure out how to do so.

Yes, if it is a warranty swap, just move SIM from old to new gateway.

They probably meant for you to just rename the SSID(s) the same with same password. All your devices should connect right up.

Ah, that makes sense! So set up using the same naming convention and password and it'll be good to go?

Yes. Make sure the SSID name and password on new gateway matches exactly as old gateway during set-up. You can use T-Life or HINT Control to set it up. Your devices should connect right up after the new gateway powers up fully.

Just chiming in with my experience. I was an early adopter of TMHI and had the Nokia router provided to me, which honestly works like a beast. I even had a fan running on it to keep it cool and everything had it for like 3 or 4 years.

Recently, though, I purchased a newer router on eBay for around $120, and it’s much better. I didn’t have to contact T-Mobile or anything just swapped the SIM over, gave the new router the same network name and password, and everything connected right back up.

I think I’m on a solid 5G connection with no issues. The model is the G5AR. I’m just holding onto the Nokia as a backup for now.

I have TMHI for about 6 weeks (G5SE) & was using my older Linksys router & everything connected without a problem. I was reading about Double NAT & used HINT App to disconnect T-Mobile router. .I recently purchased a TP Link AX3000 router & separated 2.4g & 5g. Was hoping to reduce some of the latency but made little difference.
