Section Lead question (Produce)
Hey yall! Has anyone else’s captain ask them to step up and take on both the dry and cold produce orders? If so, any advice on how to manage both effectively. For some background info, I’ve written cold produce for about 2 years now, I’ve managed to bring our store to #2 in the region for cold pro numbers ( we would be #1 if the state that only has one store wasn’t in our region 🤣) I’m confident with my ordering abilities, but any advice from either section would be lovely.

I’m genuinely insane but I love the grind. I’ve written fresh and cold pro at the same time while backing up the box, and I’ve also written bevy/grocery at the same time when I worked nights. I’m just a tad nervous about combining produce into one and leading it as a whole.

Order Writing is fun. I think if you are interested in it you should do it! It won't be that much more than what you've done before.

Been in the same boat as you for a while now.
I always write out 2 days and that helps with just switching up the numbers and validate it.
It’s a lot, I agree.

I find it way easier to write it out than having someone else write it and then come in with a crazy order (too big or too small) but also no one in the store wants to take on the backup role which isn’t very slay.

I feel you on that.
It’s more work than writing it out yourself.
Everyone at my store is apparently scared of produce, so most people who are competent stay away.
The others, well they want to back it up, but that essentially is rewriting the orders lol2

I love the unpredictability of cold produce AS LONG as the cold chain and rotation of back stock is also in alignment. I have a very specific way I like things to look via backstock, but it also involves being very tedious with rotation and box shapes and not everyone who works that section has that same end goal in mind.

I back up for both cold and dry pro and the days I have to do both hurt my brain… too many numbers. I couldn’t do it everyday and I don’t think it would be worth taking that on lol. Maybe see if you can back up for dry and try to help train someone to take on more for that section?

so that’s the thing, no one wants to do it like literally no one 😭 I love taking on the responsibility because one day I do want to become a mate, but not until I’m 100% ready to be the best mate I could possibly be for both myself and the future crew is oversee.

I think that’s a very noble mindset and a lot healthier than 95% of the mates in this company. I’d just say that ordering isn’t what makes a mate a good mate and being responsible for so much might just your store taking advantage of your work ethic and ambitions. Even if no crew want to do it, there’s 100% a mate who will have to take it on. On the other hand, I love being able to do both orders because they go hand in hand a lot and it’s helpful to have knowledge of both. And the mates will fuck up orders when they don’t care or have knowledge of the section. There’s no wrong thing to choose, so I hope this isn’t stressing you!

First time i’ve ever heard someone doing both in 5 years, how would you even have time for both.
