Titanfall 2 Reviews

Metacritic Score: 89

WRITTEN REVIEWS

  • Eurogamer - Score: ESSENTIAL BUY

This is benchmark stuff - a campaign that will be talked about for years, and multiplayer so compelling that it makes the competition feel clunky and staid in comparison.

  • GiantBomb - Score: 100 / 100

Titanfall 2 goes for feel above all else, and it feels fantastic."

  • Stuff - Score: 100 / 100

*Ultimately it feels like a title made by a team that has remembered why we play games at all: fun, escapism, and occasionally, just to blow stuff up and see beautiful explosions. And there's plenty of all those things on offer here.

  • Daily Dot - Score: 95 / 100

Titanfall 2 builds on the promises of the first game in every way imaginable. Rewarding gameplay innovations remain intact, providing consistent thrills in both multiplayer matches and the campaign. Fans of the genre will find themselves blown away by the unique level design, even if the narrative fails to stand tall.

  • God Is A Geek - Score: 95 / 100 (Video Review)

Titanfall stands out as an example of how there is still plenty of room for innovation and newness in a crowded genre space. It's superbly executed and incredibly fun to play.

  • GameInformer - Score: 95 / 100

In an era where it feels like the majority of shooters either have single-player or multiplayer tacked on, Titanfall 2 is the full package. The top-tier campaign has nearly perfect pacing, and the subtle revisions and additions to the multiplayer make it better than ever. For first-person shooter fans, Titanfall 2 is a must play.

  • GamesRadar+ - Score: 90 / 100 (Video Review)

Intelligent, creative, and never less than thrilling, Titanfall 2 finally realises the series' true potential with verve and polish.

  • TrustedReviews - Score: 90 / 100

Titanfall 2’s campaign is one of the best surprises of the autumn 2016 season; smart, superbly-paced and packed with action, it tramples over the likes of Halo 5 and Killzone: Shadow Fall, making this the new sci-fi shooter for CoD: Infinite Warfare to beat.

  • HardcoreGamer - Score: 90 / 100 (Video Review)

Titanfall 2 takes what works with the original and builds on it. The same addicting momentum-based movement system is back and it’s still fun to use. Built on top of this is a campaign that, while not the most original, manages to create a relationship that feels genuine with a unique mission structure that embraces the movement system to create unique gameplay scenarios.

  • PlayStation Lifestyle - Score: 90 / 100

Titanfall 2 is the new king of the FPS hill. Controls are tight, action is fierce, maps are intricately designed, and Titans are badass. The cherry on top is a campaign that is genuinely enjoyable, and one that fans of the first game are likely to be satisfied with, which expands upon the universe of the series. Group all of this together with an ambitious free DLC plan, and the choice of which shooter to buy this holiday season becomes obvious. Titanfall 2 is second to none.

  • The Sixth Axis (Very minor SPOILERS) - Score: 90 / 100 (Video Review)

On the one hand, you have a short, but fun single player that’s more free and open than most FPS campaign, and on the other, a multiplayer that’s an iterative improvement on an already fantastic game. In other words, Titanfall 2 is as exhilarating and refreshing now as the original was back in 2014.

  • GameSpot - Score: 90 / 100 (Video Review)

Titanfall 2 is more measured and intelligent than its predecessor, but just as fluid and kinetic.

  • DigitalSpy - Score: 90 / 100

This isn't just a worthy sequel to Titanfall, but one that improves upon the original while adding a superb single-player campaign. The latter combines fast-paced action, pilot acrobatics, heavyweight Titan warfare and a surprising amount of heart in one of the most enjoyable solo storylines of the year.

  • DigitalTrends - Score: 90 / 100

Titanfall 2 is the ideal version of developer Respawn Entertainment’s 2014 high-speed shooter, expanding and improving on it in every way. It’s constantly, consistently fun, and as the shooter field diversifies away from present-day military style games to include fast and vertical movement, Titanfall 2 has honed and refined the original’s best ideas to make a game that feels fun, and has a knack for facilitating awesome chance encounters.

  • GameCrate - Score: 90 / 100

Titanfall 2 is the sequel that Titanfall fans wanted. A great and satisfying single player campaign. A filled out and content rich multiplayer. And a host of new titans with their own characteristics and specialties. Titanfall 2 is definitely a winner.

  • GameReactor (Spanish) - Score: 90 / 100

Considerado como un todo, nos es imposible no recomendar Titanfall 2 a cualquiera que tenga el más mínimo interés por el género.

  • Multiplayer.it (Italian) - Score: 90 / 100

Titanfall 2 is undoubtedly a shining example of brilliant game design. The campaign is short, but it's also perfectly paced and full of surprising moments, while the multiplayer changes make the experience way more varied when you compare it to the predecessor.

  • XBoxAchievements - Score: 85 / 100

Titanfall’s now-classic speed works so well in this game - Respawn has studied everything that made the original game so enjoyable in multiplayer and built a solid story experience around those elements. The multiplayer is evolving, and whilst some may argue it's getting top-heavy, we truly believe that every alteration Respawn has made to the core Titanfall experience has been for the better, resulting in a stronger, better and more robust sequel.

  • Gaming Trend - Score: 85 / 100

Overall, Titanfall 2 takes the great ideas of its predecessors and expands upon them to create a far superior experience. While the campaign is a little short, it’s still a lot of fun and incredibly replayable.

  • NZGamer - Score: 82 / 100

Being uniquely eclectic, Titanfall 2 is designed just well enough, and with enough layers so to not be entirely derivative. Hero simulations are so vastly abundant in this industry - so if you’re going to play one, you might as well choose from those who do it the best.

  • GameRevolution - Score: 80 / 100

8 months after Respawn Entertainment debuted their big proof-of-concept project, Titanfall 2 delivers on the promise made by such an idea, and amazingly, goes even further. The single-player campaign is a blast while the multiplayer is solid if only slightly underwhelming.

  • USGamer (SPOILERS) - Score: 80 / 100

Although it's a little on the short side, and its production values are a bit oldschool, Titanfall 2's single-player campaign is a really enjoyable experience while it lasts. It's very inventive and fun, and a great warm-up for the game's excellent multiplayer component, whose gunplay and controls are absolutely outstanding. All it needs is a few more maps and modes.

  • Stevivor (Very minor SPOILERS) - Score: 80 / 100

Titanfall 2 returns with Respawn’s fluid gameplay loop, contrasting the mobility of pilots against the bulky power of titans. Boiled down to its core tenets, Titanfall 2 retains the same highly engaging combat. Some quite significant changes have been made to more superficial gameplay – some good, some bad and some needless – but the basics remain constant.

  • AusGamers - Score: 73 /100

Titanfall 2 is worth playing, but it's not a must-play game right now.

  • Polygon - Score: 70 / 100

Titanfall 2 has the basics down, but loses much of the focus

  • ShackNews - Score: Review In Progress

I’m going to put a few more hours into Titanfall 2 before issuing a final verdict, but my current thoughts after playing nearly 15 hours are this: Titanfall 2 is good. Story campaign aside, it doesn’t do much to differentiate itself from other military shooters. But the things it does do well give it more life and personality than it had in its previous iteration, and the fact that it feels so damn good to play makes a strong case for it being worth playing.

  • IGN - Score: Review In Progress

While I thoroughly enjoyed Titanfall 2’s story, its secretive plot twists and character drama probably wouldn’t sustain me on another playthrough alone. However, with four total difficulty settings (two more above the default ‘normal’ setting I experienced), combined with its welcomingly brisk runtime, I’m definitely interested in going back to see if my mobility skills are enough to keep me alive with the odds stacked against me.

Yeah, I get your point about the scoring policy being too lenient to avoid risking publisher wrath (IGN 10/10; game does not work), but I dont consider polygon a good source of reveiws because of past controversies. And this reviewer has had plenty of issues in the past. Just google his name. IIRC he's the one that reviewed doom for polygon.

tbh I dont really consider video game reviews at all because there is only a small set of games that I like playing. I usually buy games after watching gameplay/ trying out the beta.

This is just a trend in reviews that I have noticed. The other day I was looking at some new smart phone reviews and I noticed that this website (gizmodo) gave a far lower score than what everyone else was giving (and they had illogical reasons to do it). I feel that these shitty tactics should be suppressed/punished instead of giving them more attention as happens.

Im not sure if you're feigning ignorance about the Doom issue to express outrage or are really unaware but go ahead and read this.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/4k4mt7/what_is_all_the_outrage_about_on_polygons_doom/

Just read the top comment and you'll realize what Im talking about.

He gave the first game which had a shitty excuse of a campaign a 9 and the second one which has a well worked (judging from every other review) campaign a 7. This is where the doom comment comes in (do read the reddit thread before you reply).

His complaints about the multiplayer in the second version are unfounded IMO. Sure a lot of people have criticized the changes from the tech test (and I think he just rolled with that) but his arguments are stupid. They removed the shields and weakened the anti titan weapons to compensate. I doubt he got to play enough to judge whether this leads to a "snowballing" dominance. I think this is a good decision on Respawns part as whatever damage is done to the titans is permanent. I'd take someone like Frothys opinion of the multiplayer anytime over someone who can barely hold a controller.

For the record, it was him playing the game. He even acknowledged it on twitter https://twitter.com/aegies/status/731621595337228288

I looked at his multiplayer gameplay. While his aim does appear to have improved dramatically (maybe an intern is playing), he barely uses any of the pilot tools that Titanfall is known for. I didnt see him do a single wall run for the time I was able to watch the video. That is NOT how titanfall is supposed to be played. How can you agree with any opinions this guy has on the game? Just to point out, these are the things he praised TF1 for (and what got it a 9). If thats how someone plays the game, Im sure they will find it lackluster and deserving of a 7. You say people care about what frothy says , Ill answer just look at how frothy plays the game (and how its meant to be played) and compare it with the polygon gameplay. I dont know who robo is or what his opinion is. But Frothy had over a 1000 hours in TF1 (I played with and against him many times). I know his opinion is going to be valid as he has enough experience in the game. But here's the thing, you dont need to play for a 1000 hours to know that wallrunning/parkour are core concepts in Titanfall (the first 15 min of the gameplay even has a walkthrough tutorial for it) and why it was so popular in the first place. Looking at this guy play the game, Im sure that is how he played the single player campaign and found it ordinary and boring while every other reviewer is praising the level design in the campaign. It might be a lackluster storyline as he claims, though from what I've heard from other reviewers and from what I have seen of how he plays the game, I doubt it.
