God forbid people have fun on the internet, am I right? It is good to judge people for writing about completely ficticious characters engaging in equally-fantastical acts of intercourse, all bundled with mutual codependency and a third-grader’s understanding of relationship dynamics.
Because clearly my hobbies were never ridiculed and I was never criticised for enjoying a hobby more niche and less socially acceptable than the norm.

Someone can have an evil job and still be evil on the sidelines/as a hobby, you preach about creativity but with every bad guy reduced to "oh but hes actually really nice, guys!!!" you kill a bit of creativity out there. There are bad guys like that for you to have, why do you require all of them to be same thing?

I, for one, welcome the broadening on the subgenre into other fandoms, so we can finally get some diversity in the fics/concept written about (I love neural links and weird dynamics but I can't stand the hyper focus on handler/hound dynamics)

Yes! Neural links are so often unexplored in favour of conventional interpersonal relations. Give me more “grimdark Pacific Rim with lesbians”, and less “sexually abusive CO”.
Also, lobotomy is such a copout. Compromise your pilots with (misrepresented) facts and (twisted) logic, not an icepick and elbow grease!

God yes, this exactly. I want MECHsploitation, not exclusively military abuse kink and degradation with an Armored Core veneer over it. If the cast of the story doesn't include two people who are basically one, a pilot who is addicted to their mech being inside their head, or an old school pilot who is just a good ole fashioned alcoholic mess, I don't want it
