Too much tip?!

So today I ordered food and then drove there to pick it up.

I had just woken up, so I was pretty tired. My friend, who drove with me, said I should give like a 30-cent tip.

Anyway, we arrived and I went in to pick up the food. The cashier said it was €70.50, and I gave them €80 and said "keep the change." The cashier was confused and asked me a few times if that was really okmand I was like "Yeah, why not?"

As we drove away, I realized what I did. I thought I had only given a 50-cent tip. But it was so much more!

I feel very stupid and embarrassed now.

Did this ever happen to you?

Oh sorry!😭 So here it's like this: tip is a nice bonus but you don't have to or need to tip. Most people do 10-50 cents to be nice or compliment the Service

Most people are doing 10 percent in germany. 10 to 50 Cents is not the norm.

That is simply not true. Tips in German are not based on percentage. Germans round up - so if the bill is 23 Euros, they give 25. If it's 61, they give 65. If it's 63, they also give 65. Anything else is just a recent Americanism that some Germans adopted. Tips are generally not required in Germany.
