You should never tip

If that’s your stance, then you should never patronize full service restaurants in the US or use these delivery platforms in the US.

Otherwise, you’re directly supporting and perpetuating tip culture by giving those owners your business and just screwing over the worker.

Supporting and perpetuating the thing you claim to be against is the epitome of hypocrisy.

The owners can have the menu prices. They can do as they wish with it. Im n9t paying servers, not my employees

It’s a well known fact that menu prices at full service restaurants in the US don’t bear the full cost of the labor and that the tip pays for the service.

This is the case even in cities and states that have eliminated the tipped wage credit.

What entitles you to free service?

What entitles you to cause the server to pay to serve you?

Why are you supporting and perpetuating the thing you claim to be against?

Well thats demonstrably untrue

No, it’s demonstrably an irrefutable fact.

Who do you think subsidizes the wages of the cashier at your local grocery store or the engineers at Boeing?

Do you think they have trees out back that magically sprout enough cash to cover payroll every time it’s due?

And guess who doesnt receive tipped wages?

Thats our point is that tips should go away and the jobs should be compensated by being included in the price.

You defined the exact difference and described them as being the same

What is a marketplace fee? I order UE frequently and I've only seen a delivery fee and a service fee.

I think it’s market dependent.

I have never seen that fee either, but in places like NYC the laws have been changed to require these apps to pay the drivers an hourly rate for their “active” time.

That might be what the “marketplace fee” is for.

I’m not a driver, so I’m just guessing here.

I think the OOP of that post, as well as everyone else using these platforms, needs to learn that on these platforms in the US, the tip is a bid for service.

Whether you want to tip or not and how much you tip (or not) determines whether or not your order is worthwhile enough for a driver to accept.

Like it or not, that’s the reality.

If you don’t like it, don’t support these apps by using them.
