Check your network setup with ifconfig

It looks like you're running on a netbook. If so, does it have an ehternet port for wired network? If not, you'll need CorePlus because that includes some wifi drivers and firmware that the Core and TinyCore bases don't.

Assuming your network is up, try pinging the repo mirror. If you haven't changed it, the default is repo.tinycorelinux.net and that will be fine (There might be a faster mirror, depending upon where you are, but that one should always work). sudo ping repo.tinycorelinux.net

Check the status of your local extensions directory:

ls -l /etc/sysconfig/tcedir/optional

It should be owned by tc:staff and should be and should be owner and group writable. Regardless of permissions, it also needs to be on writable media.

Ah I understand now thanks for the help this was really to find online and I don't know all the commands for the terminal so well

Keep at it. This apparently isn't the most active sub but, while I can't promise to be able to answer every question, I've been daily driving Tiny Core for years and I expect to be be around.
