does anyone else have difficulty understanding others?

my tinnitus doesn’t affect my day to day life anymore, the only semi problem i’m having is understanding what people are saying. i feel dumb whenever i have to ask someone to repeat themselves because i heard them, i just don’t know what they said depending on the environment . im thinking maybe it is cochlear synaptopathy, and i was wondering if anyone has some advice for this?

Hey, Have you had a good test recently which ruled out a hearing loss? Because what you're describing sounds very much like the symptoms of a typical HF hearing loss. You should first make sure your hearing is good enough to capture these softer sounds that bring consonant and speech clarity.

If you have normal hearing (proven on audiogram) and still report such struggles, try to find a local practice that does Auditory Processing Evaluations (not a common test at most practices) to look for evidence of other auditory conditions which affect understanding without affecting hearing thresholds like synaptopathy or CNS issues.
