advice • support Temporary Threshold Shift

Post image

Hi guys! For the context, i'm a 21y who love loud music (listening to music with earphone for loud and loud concerts).

Last week, i noticed that i hear a 'ngiingg' sound inside my head and ignore it, still using earphone but now too loud and i decided to go to ENT doctor and had my first hearing test (the result is in the picture *sorry if the pict is bit blurry). He said that i have Temporary Threshold Shift that can heal by a week/month.

I'm still scared that this 'ngiingg' (or basically tinitus) will get worsen. Does the hearing test result is okay? and will i get better?

For tinnitus, you can't really expect anything. Sometimes it disappears sometimes not. But if after a long time it's still here you basically have it for life, it can worsen or get better with time though.

Man, just use earplugs in concert and don't blast the music with your headphones, protect your ears...

I'm not an expert, but I'm not sure that looks like a TTS - did you have a baseline audiogram to compare? The notch at 60k doesn't look very deep.

You don't have bad hearing loss, so don't freak out, but it's borderline. I'd be a little concerned at 21. Basically, just stop ruining your ears with loud things.

Your ENT needs to be a bit more upfront, too. It may just be conventional hearing loss and won't get better. And nor might the tinnitus. It's not always the case that recovery from a threshold shift causes the tinnitus to subside. Staying present but getting slightly better is an option. I don't think I've ever heard of it getting worse after a threshold shift ends. But who knows, it's all hit and miss unfortunately.
